Greetings from Grotto Bay!
Hi all!

My name is Willie Landman, me and my wonderful wife, Riana, moved to the WC from Ventersburg in the FS in 2011.

We are actually Afrikaans ex-maize farmers that fell in love with the beautiful Westcoast and it's awesome people!

We live, work and operate from our home, here in Grotto Bay, a small private nature reserve, I guess most of you know about.

I loved my "plat karre" for all my life but then living here, with all this awesome mountain roads etc, urged us to look into some kind of 4x4.

I almost bought a 110 Defender, which was fully kitted out, double bed in the back etc but then my good friend Theuns from Pta kept on reprimanding me, hehe (guess why?)....anyway then he directed me towards a Pajero and so my mind was started shifting...

We so love the 2008+ DiD but it is still a bit far above our budget. Almost bought a 2000 Gen 3 with a broken diesel pump...until i found out what that will cost to fix.

Then this 1999 3.0L shorty came my way for a good price. By then my mind had already started changing from my much loved diesel cars to petrol, taking cost of ownership and all into consideration.

Currently our "Muis Mobiel" (named after Riana's nickname) is our only car, well, our kids left home and for us 2 this Shorty is all we need, commuting, travel, work and play, since luckily we only drive about 500-1000km per month with it.

My 1st tank gave me 7,5km/l avg, both town and open road driving at 100/110 max on open road.

Well, I am happy, I was fearing the 6-6.5 figure but at this speed, 7-7,5 seems a very possible figure.

We used in in some very thick sand here in GB and I am surprised at how it handled it, almost like a spinnekop running over the sand!

We will be going to the deep sand here in Bokbaai soon and also Atlantis is calling!

Well, that's for now, nice to be part of this forum.
If you want to drop in and see the beautiful Grotto Bay, just drop me a PM!

Many blessings and lovely riding to you all!
See you here! :)

Hi Willie....
Ek bly in Bloem. Het ook verlede November 'n "Speelding" gekoop. Ek is nou die trotse eienaar van 'n 1997 Gen2, 3 liter V6, SWB. Alreeds rondgery by ons huis in Danabaai... Sandduine by Vleesbaai ens. Die spinnekop is fantasties op sand! Ek kry dieselfde brandstof verbruik as jy.
Re: Greetings from Grotto Bay!
Gerhard, dis great man!
Ja nee, hy trap die sand so leke ligvoet!

My buurman het gister die Intercape Upington toe geneem en n 2000 Gen 2 3.0 daar gaan skep. Hy het heelpad 100-110 gery en 8,75km/L average gekry op die langpad, daai is baie goed hoor!

Hi Swanniebraai, I have nothing to add to your Pajero experience as I could have told you so.

What I am curious about is adapting to the West Coast, as it is in our (almost) immediate future. When we were hunting and buying property a few years ago a very "chatty" guesthouse owner looked me in the eye and she said: Meneer, ken jy wind?

So, how is the wind? It doesn't help asking the locals, they all say: what wind?

Roelf,

Sorry for barging in but maybe I can help.

I was transferred to Cape Town in 1968, met Daleen there and settled there till 1988. Then transferred back to Transvaal.

The wind: make peace with the wind. If you do not, the wind WILL eat you and spit you out. Ensure that you have more than one braai area so that you can do the nice thing with some red liquid and have peace when you feel like it. The rain in winter: Ditto.

The weather here in the old Transvaal - Gauteng - is boring.

Poor Willie is trying to tell us about his nice V6 shorty and all we do is talk about the wind....

Willie, I had a Gen3 V6 shorty and both the wife and I agree it was our "nicest" Pajero. I believe you will continue to enjoy your's.

Yes Cloyd... my little Paternoster shack has inside and outside braai.... haha... guess which one gets used?

Manne!

Thx for all the great welcomes!
Well, the wind....like all said, decide beforehand to love the wind, company with it, make it your partner, understand why it need to blow, to give rain to the Cheeaah farmers and others...organise your braais, and away you go!!

Here in Grotto we have half the wind than in the City or Langebaan, very mild area!

Ja, so far I love the shorty, my wife as well, cant wait to go to Atlantis, very soon now.

I did see the Paj club in Atlantis the other day, wonder when they going again?

My "engine" light comes on now and again, my mechie says it is the mass air meter, any of you have a link to the topic....else I just searc the site.

Many great miles for you guys!
