What fault codes does the Mitsubishi diagnostic tester return? Without that information its all just guessing.
Just as an update. I replaced the pump and its all running again - in fact the best since I've owned it.
Just thought I'd conclude the thread. Errors are now clear.

Glad to know you are sorted. Did the pump rebuilders tell you what part went south in or on the pump to give rise to those symptoms you were experiencing?beyondhelp wrote:Just as an update. I replaced the pump and its all running again - in fact the best since I've owned it.

My dear friend, I have been through that same or similar problem before.
In my case were the injectos, I had to replace the nozzles and my symptoms were the same as yours. I was in the mountains when it began to loose power and a big cloud of white smoke behind me, it was terrible. Many months later I had some broken wires from the pump and not a bad sensor, when scanners point to bad sensors check the wires first. I undestand wires are made of a material that has some kind of corn which is very attractive to rats that eat them specially the lower ones of your engine when is parked at night, also oil leaks are harmful to them.
It's important for you to know that scanners will not diagnose your injectors since they are not electronic.
