Hi

I have been lurking on this forum for almost a year now. Having finally found my Pajero I have signed up.

My reason for looking for a Pajero was mainly to hit the long road to the many off beat places around Southern Africa. With my kids being more independent now seemed the right time to go ahead with my travel plans. As many before me the choice of vehicle was always going to be a big decision. Two things were definite. One, Pajero, two, petrol. Then the things got a bit murky. LWB or SWB, Gen 3 or Gen 4. I looked around for many many months mainly at Gen 4 SWB, test drove many loved them all. Then a few days ago I saw an ad on autotrader and went to test drive a 2004 3.8 GLS LWB, 172k on the clock, FSH at dealer, private sale. The car drove like a dream, everything worked. Gear changes are smooth, different transfer box gears engage fine and all interior thingies work perfect. After market Caska with reverse camera retro fitted. Even the Caska unit works perfectly. The car has a few scrapes and scratches but I assumed I may be adding to those anyway.

Did the deal at R92500. Thought that was a good price. I could not justify spending another R100k to R150k on a newer model when this one was in such good nick and drives so good.

Now I look forward to the 180k service which I know is a biggie but it will also give me the opportunity to really give the car a good once over and rectify anything that needs done. I will be quite happy to spend whatever necessary to get the car 1000% in readiness for some journeys.

Took the car to Groenkloof on the weekend to do the trail. Did all the obstacles. Performed perfectly. I know Groenkloof is not heavy 4x4 but I just wanted to see a little of what the car could do.

I am looking forward to meeting other members on the forum and doing a few trips.

Regards

Andreas

Andreas,

Welcome! I also drive a black 2004 GLS and after about ten years ownership can only say thank heavens for buying it. You will find that they support the Arabs very well BUT it goes wherever you want to go. Some advice: be very objective when you decide to add extras to it! The suspension is excellent - you do not need OME, Iron Man, etc, only a pair of airbags at the back. Keep your running boards or what ever the new name for them is. I have been down Van Zyls Pass and all over without any problem.

Join us in the next Tie the Dots at Barberton under leadership of Roelf. If you need advice, or need to look at your Pajero's brother, contact me.
