Hi guys, i just drove from plett to CT in the pajero becuase i had to, engine runs like a dream, but no power at all,if i put my foor down it just coasts along, uphill 40-60km hr if i get atraight then i can eventually get it to 100km/hr.the engine managment light stays on,is there any thinking that the ECU could still be thinking it is the old motor and acting accordinly?? it also swings and swings for a while befoe it starts.....this is wearing me down.

sorry it's a 2001,now with a 2002 motor?
Re: Guys i need help with this one ,engine managment light
There is a way to check the fault codes manualy on those models by earthing one of the ports at the OBD type port. Check this link

www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3193

Do this and see what error codes are popping up.

Google reveals this pearl of wisdom which might be your problem.

QUOTED FROM VICTORIA PAJERO CLUB:

Hi, a year ago I had absolutely same problem. During rapid acceleration my car used to fall to emergency mode with no power and engine and Mastc icons on dashboard.

I did manual (without diagnostic tool) diagnosis and detected fault codes 12 (boost pressure sensor system) and 41 (main throttle solenoid valve system). Altogether it meant code 49 (over boost - turbocharger waste gate mulfunction).

Me and my friend (mechanic) started inspection of waste gate and map sensor. We found out that the hose connected to the map sensor was cracked and the waste gate was sticky and wasn´t fully openable.

Finally, the cracked hose was replaced and sticky waste gate released by compressor. Since then, the car has been ok, no fault codes and no emergency mode. Everything cost me 2 Euros for new hose.

END QUOTE.

Maybe check that hose to the MAP sensor is still good, clean inside ans most importantly still connected!

Re: Guys i need help with this one ,engine managment light
This was a second hand engine and chances are the turbo boost control system was damaged. If the waste gate does not limit / control the turbo boost pressure, the ECU will throw out an overboost fault.

Check the linkage for damage from the boost pressure control housing to the waste gate.
Check the small short rubber vacuum pipe from the turbo compressor housing (big shiny silver / inlet side of turbo) to the golden turbo boost control housing mounted on the compressor housing. See picture.

If you do not find a fault here you need to check if the diaphram inside the housing is not damaged. Remove the short rubber connecting pipe and use a piece of vaccuum hose to suck and see if it holds a vaccuum.
