Well Lock, I am all for throwing a steak on a fire and having a cold one. However to combine the removal, the cleaning / decarboning (and that can be a real b... of a task by all accounts) and then the correct refitment of an inlet manifold on a Common Rail 4M41 is pushing it. The task is about a half day with full attention given by my estimation. The actual task of cleaning / getting the muck out of the manifold might even push it towards a full day. I will be tackling this task next week and will keep you guys informed.
The issue is where do we get a friendly dyno? My hopefull do not have this facility anymore. Will keep on trying.

Dump one liter JASO FC 2 stroke oil in the tank before you go and make the engine work hard. See if it makes a difference.peterpot wrote:Thanks again Marius you have succeeded in getting my hopes up once more. I was feeling particularly down as I had thought i HAD IT BEAT! But no it was not to be. I agree Marius it normally is something quite simple or logical that was overlooked. I continued doing research on the fuel system side and when I found a tiny fuel filter inside the CR fuel pressure pump, I thought I had it. Speculation was rife wether this blocked filter would trigger a fault code or not. Agreeable the filters in the injectors (yes everyone these CR injectors actually have filters) would trigger a fault code but the one inside the pressure pump ....... I continue to question. You have to remove the starter and remove the filter via a small allen key plug underneath the pressure pump ....... and it was clean. Another dead end!
Googling and looking at the intake flaps it is a fair sized job. The EGR is already blocked off. I am only going to get a chance to do it next week so it means going away with a low powered tow vehicle again.

Marius in what area do you think the 2SO would work ? I have read a number of articles and comments on 2SO including the one by Sasol and must say I am still not convinced.
I do share your sentiments about fuel quality and cleanliness. I believe our biggest problem with diesel is algea. This is a living organism which contaminates diesel fuel and the problem is getting worse and worse.

Peter,
If you have read the 2SO stuff, then you'll agree there is no real reason to suggest that one tank with 2SO is likely to cause harm.
If you agree, then let us assume the benifits are real (just for argument sake). Marius suggests a strong mixture and the potential benifits are additional lubrication for the fuel lubricated bits. Maybe a small sticky part comes free and voila! If not, no harm done.
The other benifit is carbon removal. Just maybe there is an injector with some carbon on a tip that is affecting the spray pattern. Maybe the 2SO cleans it up. If not, no harm done and the exercise cost you R30 or so.

I do not intend getting into a 2SO debate. Here is the study done should anyone be interested / for their own info.

Is that the SASOL one?
I have it.
But yeah, ignore my post. I should have known better, my bad.

Roelf I have always taught my family "if in doubt, leave it out", and yes to me there are still many unanswered / unclear matters WRT 2SO. The one that is "plausible" is that the high zinc content can cause problems. These Common Rail systems are pretty clever and can normally pick up if an injector is not performing. Every one has the right to choose / have their preferences. I do find the debates entertaining.
Let us not go off topic though. I am anxious to tackle the "inlet manifold decarbon" and have scheduled the job for next week. Will post photos and findings asap.

I dont want to go into the discussion. I have helped many guys unstuck a VGT turbo by a large dose of 2so. It may unstuck the swirl flaps.
If you are willing to try then do so. If not then thats fine.
I have seen enough intakes and egr valves thats been run on 2so to be a big believer of its carbon cleaning abilities.
Its up to you. I understand that you might not want to try. But then you will definitely have to strip the intake for a clean at some stage.

PS : the v10 touareg dad has is known to gunk up the intake as well. Dads one is at 340'000km and no gunk in the intake. Take a guess what is his take on 2so.
