Last week straight after starting my wife's 2000 Pajero IO 2lt GDI engine management light came on.
The engine was miss firing slightly.
I checked all plugs and eventually replaced the spark-plugs only available from the agents.
It seems fine now however not finding a particular fault wonders if anybody has found similar errors in the past.

Ron
Hi RonBeuke,
I have seen these symptoms (engine management light and sluggish/staggered performance) linked on the forums with the (ISC) idler valve, MAP sensor, fuel pump or filter, Suction control valve, exhaust return valve sensor, or problems with wiring on any of the sensors regulating mixture and rate of fuel to the engine.
I have been having a very similar problem, but hope yours is not the same as mine.
I have a Pajero IO 1.8lt import that gave me a problem about three years ago in that the engine light went on and it seemed like the engine was misfiring. This was directly after a service and so I took it back. The mechanic said it was an electrical fault not related to the service and so I took the car to an auto-electrician where it sat for over a month until I got it back. They fed me a fishy story about fixing the soldering on the ECU.
Nonetheless it seemed fine for a while and then the problem started again (Engine light comes on and shaky or sluggish performance). I took it in to a mechanic and he said it was the throttle positioning sensor and that he had temporarily fixed the problem. It seemed fine for a while but now I have been suffering with the same problem for about a year. I have taken it to another mechanic (where it sat for a month and a half) who claims he replaced the TPS, and still I have the same problem. The last word was that I need to either chip the engine management system or replace the ECU. I am now so tired of throwing money at the problem that I just drive it that way.
Some days the car drives OK and the engine light doesn't come on, sometimes for a few weeks. Then all of a sudden it will behave badly again and I need my foot flat on the accelerator to go 80 on the freeway. If I switch off the vehicle and let it sit for a few seconds I can start it again and it seems normal, but I never know for how long (a few second or a few days) until the light comes on again.
The worst is that I don't know who to trust. At one mechanic I got three different stories about what was being done on the vehicle (one from the receptionist, one from the technician working on the car, and another from the mechanic in charge).
I hope that your journey is nothing like mine and that you never see that engine management light flash at you again!
