Did you work it out on actual fuel used or checked on the OBC ?
I chipped my 2009 3.2 also at Dastek and noticed the car would show round 10l/100km but actual fuel usage worked out to 13l/100km.

The consumption I noted was off the OBC, but I checked a few times when filling up comparing trip meter mileage vs litres put in and this also was around the 10l per 100km mark.

Your Pajero model is commonly referred to as Gen3 and the following one obviously Gen4.
Your diesel pump isn't electronic, but mechanical. The engine management is however electronic. The pump has a piston for each cylinder and it thus delivers a squirt of diesel directly into the cylinder (through an injector) to initiate the burn.
The Gen4 with the common rail injection has a high pressure pump that delivers fuel constantly into the common rail "reservoir", where it sits under extremely high pressure. This high pressure fuel extends right to the "back" of the injectors. Electronic signals from the ECU then informs the individual injectors on when and how to open and allow fuel into the cylinder.
To chip or not (or which chip) has been heavily debated. I'm not going to go there.
