Hi all. I am currently looking at purchasing a 1998 Pajero 2800 Diesel long wheel base from a friend of mind. The car is nearing 300 000 km. When cold starting the car, it revs abnormally high and sometimes needs the diesel pump to be pumped but when it is warm it starts first time and revs fine, is this an issue to worry about? Also heard that these 2800 engines have a tendency to overheat and get cracked heads and so forth? What should I look out for when purchasing this vehicle? Please, all the help will be appreciated!
Welcome Ashton, I also own one of those cars and am sitting on close to 400k km at the moment.
Unfortunately I don't have all the technical answers for you, but I can tell you that we have had very little trouble with the car despite its age and Mileage. From my experience I would say they are very robust cars, as long as they were well maintained in the past.

I would get that checked out before parting with any cash for the vehicle. A diesel that has not been well maintained can be a money pit if you are not careful. The rest of the car will be as strong as the other models.
