Hi Nick
So sorry to hear about your tribulation. Having followed your rebuild efforts I was convinced that you would prove me wrong, as I was adamant that one should stay away from rebuilding. You were very meticulous and made sure everything was to spec, even if it delayed the rebuild process until you had the right parts. This brings me back to my original conviction. Your general workshop leaves a spanner swinger to do most if not all of the assembly, with the occasional "checking" by the boss or head mechanic. There is no way that such a rebuild could be successful, especially compared to the effort you put in. If it works, it is more by luck than skill in my opinion. I did 3 rebuilds on my motor, and am now left to trying to flog my engine less Pajero for R 30 000 after spending R 100 000+ on it!

Nick,

I've been following this post since day one.
Were you ever able to get this sorted?

What scares me is that a coolant change is scheduled every 60 000km, Mine is due now at 180 000km. Is that looking for trouble? There seems to be a lot more than just drain and fill!!

Hi Nick, Ive got the same problem with my 01 4m41 pajero motor, I am considering buying a Japan import motor as im not a mechanic by any means. Just out of interest, what does a complete rebuild cost compared to purchasing in import motor which I was quoted 38k for a complete motor. Thanks for you input.
