As long as it has 2 horisontal and 2 vertical bolts per side.

I dont like the goosneck based ones.

Frontrunner has a nice one if they still have them.

I have a gen4 original Mitsu towbar in my garage. It is the gooseneck type. I changed it to be able to get a higher towball height for my off road caravan, but the Sensation(lovely caravan by the way), should work well with the standard towball height.

I tried to sell it at one stage for R1000, but seems no one is interested. Make me an offer if you want, I have been known to give things away for a good brandy  . You would need to get new bolts to fit and also, I think, the electrical wiring kit or something.

New Pajero lwb towbar

Sat Jun 04, 2016 5:43 pm

An update:
My impression after encountering four, yes 4, failed installations of Mitsubishi approved tow bars is that somebody is slipping up badly.
Surely the Pajero brand is their top brand. Must be a mistake somewhere.
Nobody is worrying that the tow bars actually fit correct the first time.
I would love to see a paj tow a caravan with the short tow bar and doing turns. Do the designers know the term dropplate to get a rig level?
Bosal and the Mitsubishi brand quality suck. Two connectors where the thread does not fit the bolts.
I would like to see the design drawings and the interaction with the tyre at the back.
When I spoke to an installer they admit many Bosal quality problems, which they pass on.
I am astonished that they don't get nailed for this.
I've been waiting for extended parts forever.
This can only happen in dearest South Africa.
Buyers beware.
Cats, apologies but a 2ndhand towbar will not pass insurance scrutiny.
But a compliment to Bosal for a good product which held up after been hit from the back by a Sprinter bus.
Hopefully my dealer will sort all these hassles out in time.

No hassles. As I say it is just gathering dust in my garage.

If you are looking at other brands I would strongly consider the Frontrunner one. It has some of the most mounting points per side attaching it to the chassis.

You must maybe also consider the sparewheel lifter adapters to give a bit more space under the spare wheel when towing.

PS what failed on the MM towbars that you saw? I must say when I took mine off to replace it with the Frontrunner one, which has drop plate possibilities, it seemed sturdy enough. What I have seen, and experienced myself was failures on the chassis due to incorrect installations(not all bolts fitted), or badly designed towbars with too few mounting points putting strain on the Pajero chassis.

The problem with the Bosal towbar is the quality where the bolts cannot go in due to different threads. Their design is quite ok as per my experience when my swb was bumped from the back by Sprinter bus. The only damage was the extended bar which was bent. Put the paj on a lift but we could see no other damage. It bolts onto the chassis with a total of eight 8.8 bolts through the chassis with nyloc nuts. The Bosal seperate pull hooks are far more sturdy than the mm version which is part of the steelwork. Probably strong backwards but not an angle.
My frustration is with both companies not being able to supply an extended towbar to clear the tyre. I had such on my swb which got bent in the accident - so it is available.
My real frustration is with MM not looking after their top model with the love it deserves.
As they themselves admit it is still keeping up in the market with a very old design.

Can you maybe post a pic of this longer towbar please? I would be very interested to see it.

Thanks for the picture.

Although you are happy with this setup for your use, I would not advise the use of such a long towbar extension for off road towing use, as it will put a huge amount of strain on the chassis mounts.

Having had to strengthen the chassis on my previous Pajero after it tore where the towbar is mounted I am super worried about the long extensions that multiply the forces extended on the chassis mounts. But I must add that the towbar that tore my chassis was not well designed to start off with, having only 2 mounting points per side. I also used it for towing a heavy van off road. Maybe that was the cause, but still.
