If I could I would.... I don't have the facilities to take the engine out, with that I don't have a choice.... also its beyond my expertise limits.... or time limits.

Its more about economics here as well.... I can do a fair of bit work (up to the points mentioned) and put it all back and if its runs then a cheap fix.

To have the engine stripped professionally here will cost more than car is worth here... they are such an effort to work on that mechanics hate them. There is a car in town just like mine in perfect condition sitting in a yard with the engine in the boot... scrapped... same issue as mine., as the cost of the fix is uneconomical.

I think I have to pursue Peterpots suggestion as it sounds fair and definitely worth a go

I will let you all know how i get on.... it would have been easier if the thing actually had rocker shafts I could remove.
