forgot to mention. Paul does something clever with Natis and the engines are already on the system. Please ask him about that.
Hi
Thanks for all the replies and the help! Iv been running the engine for about a month now since I was told that the engine was not healthy. The knock seems to be the diesel pump but the engine is running fine, did 100km this morning with no issues. I am still going to either replace or rebuild the current engine. Rebuild engines seem to have better warranty but import engines come complete and seem like a better route for my financial situation. Iv also already replaced my turbo as well as the diesel pump needs a re-build so an import might save me some money

I'll drop 4e in it and suggest that you take the engine to him for a rebuild
Otherwise Lexus V8 conversion? The problem with replacing with a second hand engine is that it is probably as old as your current engine, with no guarantee to the km's its done. And registering it with the 2nd hand engine changes it to a Code 3 - Rebuilt. I have had terrible experience with rebuilding the 3.2 motor and will shy away from it unless the rebuilder is a specialist in your specific motor.

If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

The 4M40T engine is a very reliable unit & will go a long way without giving trouble provided it is not over-revved. Personally, I stick to 3200 RPM continuous max, which gives me 120kmh on the open road. It can be revved way beyond that but only for very short bursts. I think it would be better to have your engine professionally assessed & re-built, rather than a replacement unit that may have been abused. Always use "decent" engine oil of correct performance & viscosity specification & remember to drain oil & change filters every 5000km (easy to do it yourself). While re-building I would consider having the engine balanced as well as the fitment of an exhaust gas temperature gauge.
While on the subject of this engine I am looking for a good condition intercooler for my 2800 TDI. If anyone knows of one (or where I can source one at a fair price) they can contact me on 0721369083.

Peter
