Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Hi Guys, what great responses thank you all so much.

@ Shawn: The manual would also be my first choice but my wife will also be driving the vehicle and I guess I'm going to lose this one but if I win the war then it will still be worth it.

@Peter: I am a coil/solid axle type having driven an 80 series for years. This has to be the best compromise for comfort, travel and cost. IFS is great but comes at a price. Is the front also coils or is this a strut?

@Gareth: Praise indeed if it can go with a defender offroad, that gives me confidence that the PS is not just a happy bakkie.

@Forest Fab: Thanks for pointing out the 4/5 cylinder mistake. I believe the 5 cylinder 3.2 is actually a new motor on the new Pajero range.

Re the spares availability, this could be a serious factor because I will be depending on the vehicle and cannot afford it to have it's tail in the air for weeks on end waiting for spares so I guess Toy wins that one hands down. I guess one still has the internet as a last resort if the service is too bad.

That pic of the sport is awesome, I'm going to have to test my mig skills to make one of those front bumpers to get rid of the tupperware look. Mine will have to be smaller to improve the approach angle.

Looks like my sale should happen and I am now seriously looking at what is the best option on a good low kilo Sport. Any colour as long as it's white.

Is it worth spending the extra on a 2.5 compared to the older 4 cylinder 3.2? My gut feel would say the lower stress proven 120kW 3.2 should still be a good option? Does anyone know what motor will be in the 2017 model coming here?

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
I bought a 2016 new PS 2.5 4x4 auto a month ago. I got it with a towbar and smash and grab for the same price that I could get a 2nd hand one with 10 000km on the clock, without the towbar. Because of the new one coming out you can get fantastic deals at the moment. Thought about waiting for the new one, but the 8 speed auto box scares me when it comes to reliability. Buying new also includes 4x4 training

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Hi

I had a 2006 Gen 3 Pajero with a 3.2 DID engine untill 12 months ago it gave me no problems and was an excellent on and off road vehicle. When it was up for change I looked at the Pajero options as I am a committed Mitsu fan having run a Colt all over Southern Africa, replacing it with a Triton. I decided to go with the Sport as it is in my opinion it's the best value or money option.
I purchased a 2014 2.5 DiD 20,000ks on the clock. having driven it through Bots, Zim and Moz. It's equal on ride quality and performance on and off to my Paj. However the fuel consumption is much better averaging 9.5 lts per 100kms on my trip 4 people fully loaded with m gear. the Paj would only give me 10 to 11. Yes the Paj is a bit more refined but I couldn't justify the difference in cost. I'm very happy with m sport.

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Thank you for your info Gert and Terry,

Has anyone done a suspension upgrade like fitting a 50mm lift kit? If so what works well? I do not want to do a huge lift and then have propshaft alignment problems, just improve articulation and at the same time upgrade to gas filled shocks and look a bit more aggressive.

I see the upgrade on the limited edition has Tough Dog shocks but I assume they have not increased the suspension travel at all?

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
A body lift should be possible as it's a body on frame construction. It's pretty well documented for the older (gen 2 and 2.5) Pajeros, but I never came across it for the Sport. I never searched for it either
My guess is that it's more involved than a suspension lift, but keeps the integrity of your suspension.

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
My PS got a prezzie yesterday - I did a Stofpad 20 mm strut spacer lift up front and Firestone air springs at the back. Gives an overall 40 mm lift. Looks and drives great, and cost less than 8 grand. I recommend this if you want to improve the stance and clearance for offroading - as a bonus one can carry a significantly larger load.
Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Hi DID man - I initially went with the full EFS shocks and coil configuration on my PS but unfortunately after 4 different configurations I had no option to move to another brand due to EFS not supporting the PS effectively. I moved to Iron Man whom I'm very happy with and gave me about 40mm lift on the body.
Also another option is to change tires to a higher profile from 65's to 70's - that will give you true lift of the underbody structure

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Hi Guys,

Good ideas again thank you. I would think the Aussies would have done it all before us so OME and ironman should be good options.

You said you were going to do a lift Leon, I see you could not wait any longer to do it. The air cushions are certainly a no nonsense option and I believe they improve stability on a coil type suspension with a lot of free travel and would be my first choice for a bum lift.

You say they fitted 20mm spacers o the front struts, that sounds fairly straight forward. Where is the spacer fitted?

And what about a combo of the small lift and the higher profile tyres that allows a much better balloon when you deflate in soft sand? I am not a speedster in a 4x4 so maybe this won't be for those who travel at high speed and corner like Sarel on the black stuff. Or maybe get a second set of steel rims with 70 muds for when needed. But I'm spending too much money again.

Maybe someone is reading this and saying done that long ago. Yawn. Sorry....

Cheers

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
DiD Man, I am in JHB for the week and had to do it now. This lift is minimal invasive and quick - also very cost effective. I also fitted a nudge bar with a proper led bar for those pesky kudus back home.
I will do the 65 to 70 tyres when I replace in another 20k or so.
So far I am very happy with the ride quality (although only on tar road for now - off road will be properly tested next weekend back home).

Talking about a nudge bar. Where is the cheapest place to get one for my PS, gauteng area?
