Hi. Yesterday on the way home while driving at 120 the Pajero just cut out. I stopped and would not start. All lights come one, but engine just turn.
I checked all fuses and al seems ok. I check with previous owner and there is no cut out switch.
Any ideas?
Diesel pump?
Do the diy fault code test and see what it throws out.

Vhecked error codes. Only ABS error codes 13 and 14.
Would diesel pump just stop without warning. Car was pulling strong. No issues at all untill Friday.

My dieselpump on my old 3.2 idled strangely for a few hundred kms and then just died, never to start again, untill I had the pump redone. It did throw a code though. Funny that yours only shows ABS codes.
Are you sure there is enough diesel in. Once had a dented tank and it made the meter read half but it was actually empty.

There is diesel at the filter. Removed pipes to check. Gauge is between 1/4 and reserve. Was lower when I filled up last week.
Only got Pajero a month ago, but it was running smoothly. Drove 4000 km in Dec.

Will get 5l diesel tonight just to check though. Only done about 600km since filled up. Last tank was over 800.
Removed tappet cover. 2 Cam caps broken so valves most likely will have to be replace.
The chain guide was lying down at the bottom.
Lesson 1: A 1hr job to replace possibly a R200 part could have prevented all of this.
Lesson 2: The Missus asked me what that funny metallic noise is 3 weeks ago. I said it is a diesel and should be noisy..... Sometimes listen when a Woman speak!
Now the dilemma....
To fix R10 000
I saw a 2005 DiD engine for R25000. To fit R2500 by workshop and they will give me R10 000 for my broken 2001 engine.
So it is 10 000 vs 17 000. Is it worth taking the chance? Possibly the 2005 has less km on??

What is the mileage on your engine?
Me, I would go with the newer engine if it can somehow be checked on mileage.

The "milage" unit was changed. It now shows 35 000. The previous owner said it has done 200 000. He gave me the old unit in a box and it has 175 000 written on it....
