Re: 3.2D CK intercooler needs replacing
Hi guys, I work for a well know Germany company that makes brazed aluminium cores for the motor industry ie Radiators, Heaters, Evaporators, Condensers and Intercoolers.
Sorry we do not make one for the Pajero.
I would like to mention that a lot of research and development goes into these products and in part to ensure they match, performance wise, mating components ie the turbo. The tube/turbulator and fin is carefully selected to ensure the correct heat rejection.
I would not consider fitting anything other that OE to my Paj or unless it was a direct copy ie Nissens or Grandmark if they have such a copy.
Fitting anything else that happens to fit in the space available is asking for problems.
I hope this help in your choice.

Re: 3.2D CK intercooler needs replacing
Only had big prices and bad service from SAC. They "tuned" my 2.8TD and 2 weeks later it dropped a valve due to the mixture being set to lean, R20K mistake.

OEM intercoolers are junk compared to sports/performance intercoolers.

OEM intercoolers are carefully selected to provide the required cooling for the minimum cost. Mass produced and pressed together they don't come close to the performance and quality of aftermarket intercoolers.

The first thing to get junked when these vehicles are going to be used for serious offroad use is the oem intercooler.

Get a proper welded intercooler made up for half the price of the OEM one, it wont come apart like the OEM one.

BeachCat,

Very interested to hear what you have done iro custom intercooler.

1. Do you have a custom intercooler on your 3.2D?
2. Why did you change from the OEM ic?
3. Can you post a photo?
4. Who designed and made it for you?
5. What did it cost?
6. Did you do a dyno before (with undamaged OEM design) and after (with custom design ic) on the same dyno machine, set up in the identical way?
7. How long (time and km) have you had the custom ic?
8. How did the two dyno runs compare?

Production Turbo vehicles run approx 0.6 bar boost, the cans at the end of the intercooler are plastic and pressed on. You can run up to 1.2 bar on pump fuel, the standard intercooler's come "unpressed" at that pressure.

Locating an intercooler on top of the engine might work fine in Europe but at 2pm on a hot day in JHB the heat coming up from the street is 40 > deg C, the temp on top of your engine is in the 60's. That's the air the little fan below your intercooler is using to "cool" the air flowing into your engine. I've modded turbo's in the UK and in South Africa, top mounted intercoolers are OK in the UK but they suck big time in SA, especially in cities. A front mount intercooler is the way to go.
That's mounted in front of the radiator and aircon condensor. You can pretty much fit any size as well.

Here's all the theory;

BeachCat,

Thanks for the post and the attached reading matter.
Unfortunately the MrTurbo link does not seem to have any Mitsubishi intercoolers, only a few Mitsu radiators.

Also, you refer to top-mounted ics. The Gen3 OEM ic is not top mounted.

It would have been educational to see some answers to my questions.

Re: 3.2D CK intercooler needs replacing
Hi All

Need some help.

My intercooler needs to be replaced. Do I replace it with the a Original Mitsubishi part or do I go aftermarket.

I have a 2006 3.2DID Pajero.

Thanks
Re: 3.2D CK intercooler needs replacing
Take it to Cirrus cooler and get them to have a look. You can go bigger aftermarket but that requires some modifications and silicone pipes etc.
