Just for future reference...

I have experience loss of power recently, and the problem was eventually diagnosed as a faulty MAF (mass air flow meter).

I had no error codes. Power loss was most severe just after start up, then improved somewhat after driving.

The MAF can be tested by measuring the resistance between the pins and using a hairdryer to change the temperature.

The dealers want about R11 000 for the part! That is crazy. Part number 1525A016.

I'm going to see what I can find via either 2nd hand or from overseas (Thailand perhaps, since the Denso factory is there). I see prices of around 50 to 80 pounds in the UK.

Anyone have a spare MAF lying around?

Had a quick look online to see whats available, im sure you have already but heres what seems like an original Denso product for R1620 incl shipping.

I've been doing some research and the same MAF is used by any many other vehicles - for e.g the Toyota 4.0 V6. All made by Denso. It has a different Denso code, but other sites list it as compatible. Even the link that JTEC shared shows the alternate part numbers and it lists the Toyota part number!

Toyota sells the part for R2300. Loads cheaper! So I'm going up try that instead.

I'm also going to take this up with Imperial Mitsubishi. Their price is total BS. They are adding huge markups.

I'm also going to try clean the MAF properly. I did previously, but not the actual Airflow part. Most online guides are not correct. They only show cleaning of the temp sensor.

Well, I just did a proper clean over the MAF - the fine air flow sensor elements deep in the plastic housing, and the power is back

I'll monitor it for a while.

Before the clean, the diagnostics showed a max of 75 g/s. Now it's a max of 130 g/s.

Hey Kurt,

The confusion comes in as these Denso MAFs have an external temp sensor (intake temp, used to control the EGR) as well as a air flow sensor.

This is the external temp sensor:



It should be cleaned, but is not the actual air flow sensor.

Then, down inside the tube, are two thin elements - these are the air flow sensor. They must be cleaned.



So you can just use an electrical cleaner or MAF cleaner to spray (wash) these areas.

Main thing is to clean inside the MAF (down the tube) with an Electrical cleaner.

Just to let you know...

The MAF seems to be expensive from the factory for some reason. The shop I normally use in Thailand has a price of $340. It is still half the local price, but not nearly as cheap as the equivalent part for Toyota and others.

So if you ever need one, I'd go for the Toyota part.
