Hi,
The front corner of the frame holding the sunroof glass has rust bubbles. It appears that everything is still working and there is no water getting through. The vehicle is out of warranty, so unless there is a recall / factory acceptance of the problem then it is going to be fixed at my expense.
Have any other members found a DIY solution? (I'm not afraid of a bit of work.)

I also had this. I cleaned the area and repainted.
I also made sure the beading on the top is clean of debris and found a whole bunch of leaves etc stuck under the beading leading to a constant wet area in the corner where I picked up rust. I cleaned it out with earbuds etc and now make sure that part stay clean and dry.
So far it seems to have stopped further rust apearing.

I've experienced this... but my rubber molding has just parted from the steel frame on which the sunroof glass is mounted. The rust is very deep and I am worried that it is irreparable.
Guy if you experience this, NIP IT IN THE BUD. Don't let it get to the stage mine has.

I got that price today. Almost lost one of my nuts from coughing so much.
Anyway I've started exploring another option: Amayama Japanese imports... Looks like I may be able to get only the frame, and transfer the molding and the glass to that (after painting with marine-spec paint to prevent future occurence).
I may start a DIY thread if I end up doing a DIY job... Perhaps remove molding, remove glass, remove rust, weld plates, grind plates, sandblast, paint, refit glass, refit molding... I just need to make some time..!

18k that's horrific. Also had the same issue recently.

The rust is a common problem on the later models from 2005 onward seems to be.
It comes from not using the sunroof so when it is closed the rubber lifts every so slightly and the water and moisture gets in under the rubber.
Use the roof more often, that is what it is there for. The other problem is simply not drying the vehicle properly. It is the old saying when washing a vehicle, what you can't see you don't dry, like under the bumpers, and inside the doors and the roof so it stays damp. Then you pull the car into the garage and it is still wet around the edge of the sunroof. DRY IT and the problem will not start. If the car stays outside then every night the moisture lies at the lowest part of the sunroof, which are the corners, yes and they stay moist.
The roof sections only come as a complete section and are pricey items. The rubber is part of the glass and nobody sells it separate.
The the frame outer section is also prone to rust if you open the roof and look at the sides. Once again. Clean the car but nobody thinks to open the roof and simply wipe the edges of the roof surrounds. They get wet when you wash the car or it rains. They are subject to all the wind and airflow so yes they will rust if not wiped clean and a little lubrication put on them from time to time. A valet or garden boy does not wash and dry those parts of a car so do it yourself to avoid the problem completely.
