well, so last Thursday night driving back from King Wiliams Town my timing chain broke on my 3.2 DiD. It broke after many people including the people that service my vehicle told me that chains are safer than belts as they only stretch but never break. Well mine broke, now the vehicle is sitting at Mitsubishi in East London.
i have attached some pics. i have been told that there is some wear marks on the cylinders and you can see where the valves also hit. the bore is out by .1 to .15, is that bad?
this vehicle probably used 500Ml of oil between services and a little more if i went on a trip over 1000K's, it never lacked power.
my dilemma is what do i do, replace the engine or fix what is damaged. The vehicle has 290K on it and is serviced every 10K
Do i just replace the valves and get the head checked and put the engine back together?
How can the bearings be checked with out stripping, metal in the oil?
Any ideas would be appreciated,

The breakage was probably due to the top guide failing
I have never seen a successful 4m41 rebuild
Get an import 4m41 engine (change the guide to the new design and have the oil analysis done and compression check done on engine before buying) and drop that in, or sell the car as is for parts.

What irritates me is that this car has FSH, and to me the dealers in Grahamstown who serviced my car should come to the party, they know the mileage of the car, what has been done and not been done etc.

Last year I also had a breakage.
The guide was not recognisable anymore. Chain slapped out of the cover box, through the plastic on the engine hood. Engine had 365.000km. Pistons were undamaged.
My mechanic did want to repair. New valves, new gasket, chain, guides, meanwhile also new injectors and pump. Now, 50K further, going strong. Uses about 1-1,5l of Pol every service (15K). Me happy.
