Starting on a very cold morning last week in Lesotho, I have been experiencing a weird loss of power incident now on 3 occasions.

First thing in the morning it will start, but then not rev up! Erratic idle - sounds like a tractor! No engine warning lights! Even when the engine heats up - no power - can barely get it moving.

However, switch it off and re-start, and she goes like Boeing immediately - all normal!

What can this be - MAP, MAP, SCV ?? Anybody had a similar experience? I am concerned that it does not give a fault at all!

What was the temperature? I've had this happen once ... And it turns out it was a freezing cold night - I let car idle for a minute and all was fine (this happened at around 70k kms, and no issue again up to my current 200k kms. Incidently, it also happenes up in Lesotho at sani top hotel when the ground was frozen solid and we had 6cm of snow.

I've never had such a cold temp start again, hence why I think it was that.

The first incident was at a mine up the road from Afriski - did have some snow during the early morning - bitter cold!

But, it again happened on Saturday and this morning at home!

OK, so this morning everything went haywire!

Switched on, but on the first attempt to start everything died - instrument cluster pitch black.

Turned out to be the negative terminal on the battery that had worked loose somehow!

All back to normal now. Hope it was also the cause of the first incident!
