Just make sure it has a good diesel engine oil classification. What might be a good petrol engine oil is not necessarily a good diesel engine oil. They should be using the right product if they are a professional concern.
I see that the only official supplier of Caltex products close to me is in Benoni , I have read the posts and watched the videos and I must say on face value it looks like the DELO 15W-40 does a good job. I recently purchased a 2001 Gen 3 SWB with a dubious at best service rekord form 170K km on. Is there a place in or around Pretoria where a person can get hold of Delo products to service the vehicle? At least then I will know that the engine is protected. The other oils and lubes will then be done at a later stage. Synthetic oils for me is also a over-kill as these engines are no way near "high performance" engines.
Midas ,autozone or makro should have stock.Nowadays it goes by the name of delo400 mgx (multigrade extreme)
If none of them then find a caltex garage that services a lot of trucks. They should have 5lt

Hi I'm 73 yr old engineer who worked for Caltex and Chevron. Retired 8 yrs ago. I have a 2nd generation 3.0 V6 petrol.
The Aussies (Sportmans website) swear by the Chevron (in our case Caltex) Delo 400 which rivals synthetic performance. I checked with my product enginering collegues at the time I was working and they confirmed that it was suitable for petrol engines as well. This solved my noisy valve lifters problem.
The newer version of Caltex/Chevron Delo 400 is an improved oil and clearly specified for diesel and petrol engines.
It is available from Midas outlets. I get mine fro Midas Suburban in Wetton, Cape Town. Caltex run specials from time to time at Midas outlets and that the time I stock up.

Yes I know that the DELO is held in high esteem. I did manage to get 10l at my nearest Midas. so now I can service the old girl as soon as possible. Now to get that oil filter off...
