Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
My 2010 Pajero (70 000km) started jerking and cutting out altogether. Arnold Venter at Mitsi Tech, Alberton , sorted out a blocked pickup filter in the tank, after the dealer said that it was the computer. Also sorted out an engine vibration that had perplexed the dealer since new and was unable to sort out.
Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
Update:

Vehicle was at SAC and they couldn't find anything, no fault codes, nothing, but they did admit they didn't have the diagnostic tools required.

Took the car to JEG Diesel in Paarden Eiland, R3k for diagnostics. Found fuel pressure, ie pump to engine not right. Also found fuel supply, ie tank to pump not right. In other words, don't know exactly either. I could've told them that is probably the problem from the start.

Anyway, went through all the fuel lines, no bends, pinches, scratches, holes. Now going to start at the start, the tank, check for dirt, check the pickup, etc. (hoping that's the issue as was with you Alex). They're going to do a chemical clean and the works. If there's no issue there we move on to the pump and overhaul, if there is dirt in the tank we'll probably have to overhaul the pump anyway.

Last case is then moving on to the injectors.

At 201k KMs Rudie at JEG was quite surprised the pump and injectors haven't given me problems before, apparently they start acting up at 160-180k KM and 140k KM, respectively.

So, probably high time for me to spend some on her, but at R33k for the whole shabang (diagnosis, tank removal and clean, pump overhaul, injector replacement) I'm going to feel the pain, especially so close to chrismas. A present to myself maybe? No presents for anyone else though.

Einaaaaaa. Diy and it will be cheaper. You will be amazed how simple it is once you start to do it

Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
This is unusual for such "low" km. Only the older 3.2 motors before the common rail gave trouble, and usually if you ran it out of diesel. I have crossed paths with guys having done up to 400 000km with no motor issues. At all.

Reading all this, make sure the fuel pressure is set high enough, before spending too much.
Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
Man oh man. Dirty diesel. Pickup was almost totally blocked, cleaned out tank (quarter tank diesel left was totally black).

Tested again and pump wasn't 100%, so had to recondition pump. The suction control valve I replace a month back was fine, but I wish I'd never replaced it as that was R6000 vs the R1500 it would have cost me where I am now as part of reconditioning the pump. Anyway, luckily injectors are still okay.

So, since this all started it cost me R7000 (new suction control valve) + R1400 (new diesel filter and engine conditioner, at Mitsubishi, hence the jaw dropping price. Hate them. And they wanted to replace the common rail, which would have achieved NOTHING!!! Useless!) + R19000 (diagnostics, tank clean out, pump recon.) :? :? :? .

Injectors I'll replace some time next year, proactively, before they decide to kill my engine.

Just so happy to have her back for the weekend so I can test her properly  !! And from now on I'm driving around with a few pairs of pantyhose to pull over the fuel pump nozzle like my pa and oupa did in their day on the farm.

Anyone have any ideas on how to pick up something like dirty diesel before it totally wrecks a fuel system as happened to me? Shouldn't the guys check the filter when replacing on services?

Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
Hi Phillip.

I am away at the moment and my wife has described the same issue with my car. Where did you go to sort your problems please? I am also in CT and also had very bad service from SAC.

Thanks in advance

Rory
Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
Hi Rory,

Not sure if you sorted it out, but I went to JEG Diesel in Paarden eiland.
Re: Loss of power and jerky acceleration
Good Day

I know this is a very old thread, so this is a bit of long shot. I just want to find out if you ever got the problem sorted, and what exactly ended up being the cause? My Pajero Sport is giving me the same problem now. Jerky acceleration, then it smooths out, and after a while jerks again.

Hoping it wasn't the injectors or common rail.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Juan, I described the whole ordeal 2-3 posts earlier, in short, dirty fuel. Hope you came right? What happened in your case?
