Dual Battery system Options

Tue Mar 12, 2019 9:49 am

HI Guys

I have a 2013 Pajero Sport 2.5 Diesel and I recently purchased a fridge/freezer for my car that runs on 220/12 V

I am looking to install a dual battery system to run the fridge when camping with no power.

Any advise on what system will be best for the car and where to get this fitted?

I am located in Johannesburg

Thanx

Dieter

There are a number of options in this and it all depends on what you want to do, for how long etc. etc. If you like, give me a call on 011 803 3373 and I can walk you through them. If you're near the Fourways / Paulshof area we can also install whatever you choose to go for.

Hi Pedd. I see that Gavin has already offered assistance.
If you are at all a hands on type of person, it is something you can actually do yourselves.
I fitted mine some 4 years ago and helped a friend last weekend to install his in his SWB including wiring to the rear with a Brad Harris fitted in the load Bin.
As a bonus you get that "lekker" feeling when you drop the news: "Oh, I did it myself" :)
Otherwise, let Gavin help you as the stealers will cost you between R9K - R12K.
Happy 4 x 4-ing.

Hi Matt, due to the space restriction in the Pajero's engine compartment, one can fit only a 80AH Battery(Deep Cycle).
Some might say it is too small, but for me the trade-off is that I am willing to live with the Powers supply limitation and do not want to sacrifice my loading space.
I make use of a 40l Engel Fridge and the 80AH is more than sufficient for me.
For me, the installation in the engine compartment is also an "install and forget" scenario as the installation in your load bin is always "in your face" that must always be taken into account when loading, cleaning etc. With the battery in the load bin you will also NOT been able to use the 3rd row seats(which I use occasionally with my grand children). However, for some this might not be an issue. This choice is yours.
One can swap the 2 Batteries to use the "Standard" Battery, a 90AH Battery, as the "dual" Battery and Visa Versa.
Attached is a few pics.

Apologies for hijacking this post but it is very much in line with my problem.

I need to replace my current secondary battery on my 2008 SWB DiD.
The secondary battery space is limited as can been seen on this posting's pics.
The battery I have is around 70A, a Deltec 'High cycle'.

I'm trying to find a replacement of similar size with a little more Amps.
Also trying to find the 'right' battery type. Deep cycle, High cycle, AGM etc.

The more you read the less you're sure what to do!!

Current main battery is a Varta Blue Dynamic 95Ah.
Dual battery system is the National Lunar.
I have a portable solar panel set up with Victron Mppt controller to assist in recharging the secondary battery when no camp 220V is available.
Running National Lunar weekender 50l fridge freezer.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Hey there Salty Dog.

I actually got a 105ah Deltec high cycle in that aux battery space.
Used the front runner battery mount and broke off one of the sides, welded support and bobs your uncle.

Feel free to give me a call if thats not clear.
