Pajero fuel problem
Hi guys.
I have a 2003 DiD with 260,000 km on the clock. Once the revs drop below 2,000 rpm there seems to be a build-up of diesel somewhere. If I were to drive for a few kms at, say, 60 km/h, in automatic (i.e. the revs are well below 2,000), I can smell diesel inside the vehicle after a while. If I then pull over and rev the engine, a huge puff of black-ish smoke comes out of the exhaust. The temporary solution is to go manual and keep the revs high.
When the engine is cold, the situation is worse. In order to get from my property into the street I have to slowly reverse for about 10 meters. At this point the engine will run very rough, as if flooded, and slipping into neutral plus revving the engine will again produce a huge puff of dark smoke.
I recently had the Suction Control Valve replaced (what a job!) and it seemed to help for a while, but the problem is back with a vengeance.
Any suggestions?

Hi, when did you last change your fuel filter? Check if all connections to the filter are connecting properly.

I had a similar problem, after my injectors we re-conditioned, check 1st, inside your tappet cover if the injectors are properly fastened.
When you replace the cover, make sure your pipes from the injector going into the tappet cover are fastened.
It sounds like you are getting diesel in your oil, which is what happened to my car, then it burns on the wrong stroke, the car stutters, burns black smoke out of the exhaust, and will even start revving to 4000 or 5000 rpm,

Hi Guy's
Thanks for your help. We installed new pipes from the pump, was done by Ray's, to the injectors. On our way home, I got stuck again.Ray, then referred me to an Auto Electrician, who found a fault in the cable that goes to the Alternator, from the battery. This was however after another Auto Electrician had rewired and fixed the Alternator. However, after the last guy found this fault, we got stuck the next day again. You must realize, that we have had this now going on for 2 years. We had the engine redone, " THAT'S another story" ( prior to installing the pipes, and the Auto Electrician finding these faults,) we got stuck 42 times from Maputo to JhB. So bad that the solenoid got damaged, and I had to start the car with a screwdriver. (If you don't remember, this car just cut out, and after you stopped, then wait 10 seconds, and start it again. It might go100 or over 200 km), and then cut out again. Any case, I had got hold of a speed sensor, the one in the pump, there are 2.but I went on the day after we got stuck the last time, and changed it myself. The car has not cut out ever again. I do have another problem, the termostat got stuck and it had a heat seizure due to no cooling.
I took the engine out, had it rebored, the head checked. They will skim it but it is fine, but for 4 valves that needs replacing.
Here's the story of the overhaul that the fine Delmas Engineering did on my Pajero, all the balancing shafts were out, as well as the diesel pump, by 3 teeth. The car, since I got it back, were shaking and jerking when idling, but when you drive, its ok, except for the cut out. Then when I replaced the sensors in the pump it felt that the car was smoother, but what actually happened, was the engine mountings got torn off
Have a good day, enjoy your Pajero and thanks for your help
