Hi there everybody. I am relatively new to the forum and enjoy the exchanges, which are informative and sometimes quite entertaining.
It is heartening to be part of a group of people who have such a passion for these amazing vehicles (if it ain't broke ....).
Which is where this starts. I am expecting to attract some wise cracks, but this is really addressed to those, such as Kurt, who are oracles of all things Pajero.
I had a small problem with my hooter and the contact terminals are those that are fiddly locking types with lock-on insulators. Good idea, but I guess they will deteriorate over time, faster than a standard 6.3 mm terminal. A loose connection was the culprit and I did a small wiring fix (also insulated) and both hooters are working.
Anyway, my engine bay was dusty and I thought that, before replacing the grill (removed for access), I'd give it a short and small pressure clean. To be clear, it was short and small, as I didn't want water-related issues on restarting. Job done and garaged overnight. No issues.
When I started it this morning I was assaulted by the kind of noise you generally get at the outset of an expensive flirtation with a repair shop. I hope you've all seen the videos of wise guys wacking a metal part with a spanner, as the mechanic restarts a vehicle, after a top end overhaul. It really sounded like a valve had decided to take its own path through the cylinder head.
I risked a peak in the engine bay, with it running, fearing one of the obvious things, such as a tool having been left behind (other than the author).
The long and the short of it is that, after a few start cycles, the noise "just went away". I have driven it carefully for about 50 km's and - nothing. El Burro is just fine, I think.
The reason I covered the clean is that I am suspecting some kind of misfire in a cylinder, brought on by residual moisture.
Anything other than "knock-knock" jokes?
Safe driving all.
