What is the best brand and grade to use? I am a bit confused, in my search on the internet it was advised to not use full synthetic oil. I would like to use the best oil that can be purchased. Any recommendations.
I know I'm going to be shot down in flames. I went to the dealer and asked them what they used. For mine, 3.8 V6. It was full synthetic, Shell Helix HX 8 5W/40. And have had no problems what so ever. I change the oil and filter every 10.000 kms, the reasoning being, its cheaper for an oil and filter change than an engine rebuild. I'm coming up to 200.000 kms and the motor is super quiet. I have found that Petrol Pajero's are sensitive on the valve lifters if the oil is not changed on a regular basis.
My last Gen 2, ( I had three of the beasties) I replaced the all valve lifters ( sounded like a bag of nails), a good few years ago at R 100.00 each (24 off), so what they cost now is anyones guess. That and filters from the Midas or Autozone, never had a problem.

Get the best oil one can get I use ELF Evolution either SXR 5w-40 or LSX 5W40 really good oils from Diesel Electric in RSA around R500 for 5 l , oil is relatively cheap compared to a rebuild
