Feels like I hit standing water
Hi All,

Hope you can help. Few questions

1998 SWB 2.8TDI

I replaced my shocks a while ago and ever since then my car feels very loose on the road. I would travel on dry tar, then hit sections of the road which is not completely smooth and the car would vear off the straight line, like hitting standing water with one front wheel. In essence I have to now constantly steer the vehicle, the steering also feels like it has play on it. The problem is less when I do 140km/h, but this loose steering does not give me peace of mind as you can imagine, before changing shocks car was very solid on road

I never changed or re-worked the springs/tortion bars, these do now bottom out since replacing shocks?? Where can I go in CT to have these fixed, would re-conditioning them be OK?

Next issue: When I start vehicle in morning it seems like all pistons dont run, car smokes, then when it warms up this problem goes away, refs dont pick up when I turn on AC or turn to full lock

Next issue: Where in CT can I go to check cars tuning, like a dino or something

Next issue: Where can I find a nice steering to replace current one, the rubber has now worn through and torn

Next issue: Consider having car vinal wrapped in MAtt Black, any-one have advice as to CT compamy who can do good job?

Finally: In past 6 weeks I have had 2 attmepted thefts of my vehicle!!! 302 000 km on clock and 12 years old, same modus operandi, seems strange

Thanks for great website

Cheers

Jaco,

Could be dud shocks and the wheel allignment could do with a good check-up. I think those torsion bars can be adjusted. If they are already at max, then consider getting new ones.

300 000km is a good run - on any car. Maybe off topic, but have you had to replace the cylinder head during the 300 000kms?

Hi Roelf, no never opened the engine and "seldom" changed oil or filters! Car just goes :-)

Spent the money on shocks and had diesel pump reconditioned 6 months ago, thats it

Never touched tortion bars, where will I find out if they can be adjusted?

Went up class four route today into snow in Matroosberg, amazing car, still easily hanging in with all the new far more expensive stuff around

Another question, can computer adjustment add more power, is this wise? Where would one go?
