Re: 2.8 cuts out when cold
Its a Xexel diesel pump, so Mitsu would list only the complete pump assembly.

If it is not to far, I would suggest Alan Black (Springs?)
Midrand Diesel (if they still exist) would possibly stock the seal as well.

Re: 2.8 cuts out when cold
HI ALL, I also have the " top seal leaking" problem on my gen 2 4m40. Can anyone tell me where I can find the repair kit/seal in KZN? Thanx for a excellent site. Regards, Leon. :?:

I find that it will not start via the battery and starts then by dropping the clutch on the downhill, as I fortunately stay on the side of a hill. The motor invariably fires and great amounts of smoke come out of the exhaust for a few seconds and then she clears and runs as if nothing at all has happened. This only happens when the car is cold. If it were a petrol I would say the symptoms are of plugs fouling and then clearing and firing. When the engine is warm it starts normally.

Jay, i'm so glad i joined this forum. I have the exact same problem and with my 4m40 now sitting at 320 000km i feared the dreaded cyl head problem. Now i know what's wrong and how to fix it too. Mine would start again after cranking the starter for a minute or so. She cuts out the minute i exit the driveway to great frustration of other road users and a lot of swearing from myself. Thanx
