Garmin Oregon 450/550
This weekend I was liberated of my two mountain bikes, every power tool I own, a welder, and my GPS.

I used to have an eTrex Legend HCx (which is a brilliant little unit), but was wondering if anyone has opinions of the Garmin Oregon 450/550?

Bummer about the contribution to equalising the distribution of the country's wealth.
I hope the insurance comes to the party.
(Buy a Metabo drill with a keyless chuck - they're the best by far for the hobbyist ;) )

GPS?

My opinion is to buy the top of the range, even if you think you can't afford it now.
I don't have first hand knowledge of the Oregons, but from what I've read, they are very good.
(Make sure to claim for the maps as well!)

Re: Garmin Oregon 450/550
So.. I took delivery of the Oregon 450 today.

Good on you Cross Country for settling my claim within 48 hours of the claim being submitted to my broker.

Anyway, after some intial hassles trying to install maps (turns out it was a corrupt version of the latest T4A maps), I must say it certainly looks like a very lekka little unit, and promises to be just as tough (if not more so) than my eTrex. I settles on the 450 because I thought if I DO nead some geotagged photos I already have my Samsung Omnia or I use Basecamp. I will post a review of the until sometime when I get a chance to use it in anger.
