You guys who fairly recently had had a 200 000km service done with all the bells and wistles (service, cambelt & pulley, waterpump, plugs [platinum tipped], plug leads and ignition coils, etc, etc.); what do you estimate would be a good ballpark figure to budget for (dealers or private workshop)?
Private workshop is charging me R8 650.00 for (the above) spares plus R8 500.00 for labour. Admittedly it was a schlep to find some of the spares but I just need to know/check whether I'm being done in or not? Even if we discard the spares is the cost of labour more or less on par?
Need to know for future reference.
Thanks.
R17 000? Sounds way too much.
Do yourself and ask the dealer. They have standard rates, and unless something else is found to be wrong, they should stick to the standard rates.
I bet you can do it for half that quote. Any other bets?

Are you having all that done because it need to be done or just because...
IMO, when it comes to services out of warranty, belts, filters and lubes are the only things that need doing at the correct service intervals. You do spark plugs if they need doing... you do brakes if they need doing. Why waterpump? why plug leads? Ignition coils? These are not really standard service items.
Including the cambelt, a 200000km service shouldn't cost you more than about 8k

Hi Simon
Technician considered the waterpump suspect. Two of the three ignition coils were u/s and the plugs needed replacement. It was quite a problem locating the correct waterpump and ignition coils; it seems my car had been fitted with an import engine in spite of being SAMCOR assembled.
The labour cost still seem a bit high?
