Gen 1 owners handbook
Hello all,

This is my first post in this site, and I love what you guys do, I own a Montero (pajero gen 1) and I do not have the owners manual, does any one around here has a copy that can handle to me??

Also, talking about a different issue, Let me tell you, or better say: I need your help becasue my montero has a vibration on one of the front wheels, just when you are going a bit fast this movement starts and the truck feels strange.

Sorry, I can not describe it really clear but I am sure you can imagine what I am talking about.

BTW, my name is Israel and I live in Mexico.

I suggest that you first change the wheel in case the rim is damaged. Then spin the wheel to check that the wheel bearing is not loose or worn. To do this raise the wheel on a jack and back it up with a safety stand. Then prize the brake calipers open slightly so that the pads do not impede the wheel rotation. You should hear if the bearing is not running smoothly. If all is OK so far, then grip the tyre at the top and bottom and see if there is any vertical or side play. If there is then check the lower suspension arm bushes and ball joint for play and if all is well then check the steering bushes - pitman arm etc.

An excellent handbook for the Gen I is the Gregory's No 508 service and repair manual for the Pajero NA-NG series. It is worth every cent. The handbook deals with the 2.6 litre petrol motor fitted to these models. I have owned a 1989 2.5L intercooled turbo diesel station wagon since 2000 and I use the handbook regularly although it differs slightly from my vehicle in that it has no diesel motor details and my rear suspension has coil and not leaf springs.

Many Gen 1 spare parts are identical to the pre-1996 Colts and spares are easy to obtain once you know what to look for and where. The 4D56 2.5 turbo diesel motor is almost identical to the motor fitted in current one tonne Hyundai trucks.

The Gen 1 has very few electronic components - a big advantage when in darkest Africa!

Feel free to contact me at martruss@mailweb.co.za if I can be of further help.

Re: Gen 1 owners handbook
thank you for you reply, I will try to contact him for the owners manual.

I will check the rim and tire, I think maybe the bearing could be damage or maybe something bend on one shaft...hope not...any way, thank you for your help.

I will stay around and let you know my findings with the wheel issue.
