1998/9 Pajero Eci-multi V6 3000 swb
Good morning to all
I have just bought myself a used 1998 Pajero eci-multi V6 3000 swb(3 door) petrol model.
Now I am finding out all the things that have worn and that needs replacing at 287k.
My two major concerns are my front wheel joints which have got excessive play in them and the noisy valve lifters(tappets). The prevoius owner was not very knowledgeable with the car and could not give me much advice on what or what had not been serviced/done over the last twelve years to the car except that about 4 years ago they overheated the engine and had it replaced with a reconditoined one from a supplier? in Vereeniging.
I stay in Oaklands, Johannesburg.
Can someone please recommend a workshop to which I can take my vehicle to have the first two issues sorted out? As my funds allow I will tackle any other issues.
Many thanks

I can't recommend a workshop but if you are handy with DIY have a look at my project I did about a year ago on my 3000 V6 LWB.

Ben,

Welcome here. And congratulations with your "new" car. Hope she gives you lots of fun.

The forum has a place here: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =55&t=1481where service providers are recorded. Someone suggested MITSPRO (Centurion), but that is rather far from Vereeniging.

There is quite a lot said ofn the forum aboit noisy lifters. I wouldn't be too concerned, unless it is unbearable. Those who have good technical skills could try cleaning them (the cleaning routine is in the documentation section (not sure if that is your engine, though), otherwise you may need to replace them at some stage. That is rather expensive if you need 24 of them...

Tks to all for the advice.
I have in the mean time done some more searching on the web and will try the following for the noisy valve lifter adjusters:
1. run at idle speed 15secs and then up to 3000rpm for 15 secs a couple of times as suggested.
2. If still there will have proper flush of the engine oil system done and then have new filter and filled with the recommended oil.
3. If still not right have the lifters checked to see that the little oil passage is not blocked?

So we will see how it pans out.

Please also record them here: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... 81&start=0

It will help future potential clients to find it.
