EGR on 3.8?
Hi guys

Does the 3.8 motor have an EGR valve fitted?

Are there any merits to having one?

Thanks
Cas

I've noticed a thingy on tha exhaust manifold of a Gen 3 3.8.

Wanted to know if it was an EGR valve?

Any takers?

Cas,

If possible, you may want to place a pic / photo of the "thingy".

Someone is likely to be able to identify it then...

Hi Cas, As Tonton said, post a pic.
Merits? Definetley for the enviroment. The EGR lowers the combustion chamber temperature and subseqently prevents NOx (nitrogen oxides)from forming. NOx can only form in a particular high temperature range ( i think its about 1800 celcius). Nox is the stuff responsible for the orange dirty haze one often sees over dense cities. The downside to EGR valves is that they operate in advherse conditions and can become sooted, which prevents them from closing properly, this would cause problems with your idle and throttle response.
