Which oil should i use?
Hello all,

I want to do a oil change on my Pajero 3.5 gen3

Which oil would you guys recommend.

I am think of synthetics , i see some use two stroke?? , mine is currently on high milage oil , which i dont think is necessary
due to her km being 95k.

Some say that synthetics is a better choice but if i need oil when i am out and about i cant mix it with normal oil to top up.

Are there any guys out there that are in the know about this?
Re: Which oil should i use?
Hi.
I changed to semi-synthetic for the last decade or so, in petrol and diesel vehicles i've owned / own. Seems to work out best for light and heavy use i've experienced (maybe not as heavy use as some). It can be topped up with normal oil in a pinch, without any adverse effects (to my knowledge).
I've just recently changed the oil in my 2.5 Tdi Gen2 SWB with Shell HX-7 semi synthetic, and will be checking the colour/consumption/noise levels, over the next 8000-10000km.

Unfortunately, don't have the means to do any in-depth wear & tear check.

Maybe some tech buffs can expand on that??
Negativety and Non-enthiusiasm are the only obstacles we shouldn't encounter "

1) Pajero 2.5Tdi SWB Gen 2, 1998, JUST SOLD - 1/2014 :-(
2) Subaru Forester 2.5 XS 2017

I use Caltex Delo 400 or Mobil Delvac MX - both are 15W40. It seems to be some of the best oil around and come very highly recommended, although not cheap.

Re: Which oil should i use?
you can't go wrong with delo 400. Use shell helix if you insist on synthetic

PS : the 2-stroke goes in with the diesel at 200:1 ratio, not in the engine oil. ;)
Re: Which oil should i use?
Beware that there are at least ten oils which are all called "Shell Helix".
Make sure you use the appropriate one.
Shell Helix HX3 40
Shell Helix HX3 has been formulated to remove dirt deposits in order to help protect and prolong the life of the engine.

Shell Helix HX3 20W/50
Shell Helix HX3 has been formulated with cleansing technology to stop dirt and sludge building up and therefore help protect and prolong the life of the engine.

Shell Helix HX5 15W/40
Shell Helix HX5 has been formulated with cleansing technology. It works harder to protect than ordinary motor oils by continuously preventing dirt and sludge build-up and reduce engine noise.

Shell Helix HX5 K 25W/60
Vehicles with higher mileage can incur greater wear and tear leading to lower compression and higher oil consumption. This can cause loss in performance and premature engine failure. Shell Helix HX5 K is thicker than ordinary oils and contains extra anti-wear agents. These reduce oil leaks and slow down engine wear to help protect and prolong the life of your engine.

Shell Helix HX7 10W/40
Shell Helix HX7 has been formulated with special active cleansing technology. It works harder to protect than conventional motor oils by continuously preventing dirt and sludge build-up. In addition to offering superior engine protection for all driving conditions, Shell Helix HX7 cleans and protects for more responsiveness.

Shell Helix Ultra 10W/30
Shell Helix Ultra is a premium, fully synthetic motor scientifically formulated with ultimate active cleansing technology. It works harder to protect than conventional motor oils by continuously preventing dirt and sludge build-up. For better responsiveness and improved performance, enabling your engine to operate at its full potential right up to the next oil change. Shell Helix Ultra minimises engine noise, and conditions and protects engines from the extra stresses of driving in modern start–stop traffic conditions. Shell Helix Ultra is for performance motoring, and it rejuvenates and refreshes your engine. Shell Helix Ultra is the only motor oil recommended by Ferrari.

Shell Helix Ultra 5W/40
Shell Helix HX7 has been formulated with special active cleansing technology. It works harder to protect than conventional motor oils by continuously preventing dirt and sludge build-up. In addition to offering superior engine protection for all driving conditions, Shell Helix HX7 cleans and protects for more responsiveness.

Shell Helix Ultra EX 5W/30
Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 is a premium-grade, fully synthetic engine oil scientifically formulated to give you maximum engine clean up properties using special cleansing agents that actively and continuously lock away harmful dirt and deposits. Shell Helix Ultra Extra is a fully synthetic lubricant giving ultimate engine and exhaust after treatment protection for performance motoring, is approved by leading car manufacturers such as Mercedes Benz, VW, Porsche and BMW in support of increased oil change intervals and exhaust after treatment device protection.

Shell Helix Ultra EX 10W/60
Founded on Shell technology and Formula 1 racetrack experience over many years, Shell Helix Ultra - Racing 10W-60 has been tried, tested and proven even under the most extreme driving conditions. Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10W-60 is a unique, fully synthetic lubricant that has been formulated with a higher viscosity, which provides better bearing protection under extreme performance and racing conditions.

Shell Helix Diesel HX 7 AV 5W/30
Shell Helix Diesel HX7 AV s the latest generation synthetic technology engine oil designed specifically to meet the needs of all Volkswagen pump injected four cylinder engines. Also meets the requirements of Ford four cylinder pump injected diesel engines. Approved by Volkswagen and Audi for their diesel engine specification VW 505 01. Also meets the requirements of Ford WSS-M2C-917A Specifically designed to provide exceptional engine responsiveness and protection for all Volkswagen and Audi pump four cylinder pump injection diesel engines. Also meets requirements of Ford pump injected engines requiring specification WSS-M2C- 917A. Contains Shell’s special active cleansing technology to continuously prevent dirt and sludge build-up, maintaining responsiveness right up to the next oil drain.

Seems like I missed this issue - please enlighten me: why do you put two stroke in the diesel?

In short (for low ash 2-stroke oil)

It has a decarbonising clean burn that can clean the combustion chamber and exhaust valves and ports. - FACT!
It cleans the injectors & adds extra lubrication to the diesel pump when diesel origin is suspect - OPINION!

There is some long threads to go through here

e quick google search will yield many many more.

for me and my father we have used it in petrol and diesel cars with turbo and non-turbo, with catalytic converter and non catalytic converter and in our opinion in worked on all cars for a smoother running engine. From the V10 touareg right down to my old and sold carburetted jetta 1.8.
