Re: Water Damage // Strong 3.8 V6 or is it??
So the Bridgestone Fundi went off well yesterday, got 100 points for 8 out of ten but zero's for the other two. another story....

My problem came in. The Pajero is extremely cold in normal driving conditions, town and highway. Much colder than what I'm used to with her.
But in lowrange travelling at low speeds and climbing and descending she almost redlined, I lost concentration cause I was more aware of my heat gage than anything else.

I think I was able to track it sown to my fan not kicking in early enough. Could water have effected this, should I investigate it further with regard to water damage or just get checked, fixed or replaced?

I am also a bit concerned that it could be my radiator, as she was standing for 7 weeks, maybe got a bit rusted, cause I know it was not flushed!! Maybe it's a combination of the two??

Other than that I got some really nice compliments about her ride height and presence that comes with that. ANd she performed really good as expected.
Re: Water Damage // Strong 3.8 V6 or is it??
  • cold running points to a missing/defective thermostat. Have it replaced with a genuine Mitsu part.
  • water fording often damages the viscous fan
  • incorrect / absent coolant could be at fault
Notify your insurance as well as the workshop that you are not satisfied with the repairs.

Don't take chances with coolant capabilities.

Either do yourself or get the workshop to.....

- flush radiator and engine and heater matrix passages
- flush again
- replace thermostat with original
- replace viscous if in any doubt
- have electric fan operation checked
- fill with good coolant at correct percentages

Andre,

I'm sure you have been following Thys' misfortune on the 4x4forum, after an insurance botched repair job. He is now sitting with the baby.

Do not take chances with an expensive motor's cooling system. Ignore the the 4e clan's advice at your own peril.

Must say, that Paj of yours does look good.

I agree Roelf, about the advise and her looks

I'm sending in the big guns to the insurers today, a pregnant SWAMBO :D
She told me last night that the Paj is also now not idling smoothly, she has a smallish shake to her and she's not use to it doing that. (maybe just timing, but I'm not happy!)

let's hold thumbs!!

My baby is on her way to Misubishi East Rand!!

Another new thing that stuck it's head out, when you try to start her you sometimes have to go to neutral. not always though.

So they'll have a look at the list I gave SWAMBO and let's hope they sort her out!!!

Hi Andre,

You mean you have to put it in neutral as apposed to Park? The Pajero's (not 100% sure about the manuals) but the Autos you can only start in park or Neutral.
Could be, if you have a manual, that it is in fact only supposed to start in neutral, I know its a safety feature in a lot of upmarket cars these days, but dont know about the pajero's.

Cheers

With the Auto box you can start n park or neutral.
SWAMBO couldn't get it started at all yesterday afternoon.

Mitsubishi is extremely unhappy with the quality of the work from Sena Motors in Boksburg.
Jo says the guy only did half the work and that there was no way het even checked the ECU or anything else electrical. Does not have the correct Diagnostic tool or something.

So now we wait for the new report from Mitsubishi East Rand. :|

Re: Water Damage // Strong 3.8 V6 or is it??
So Mitsubishi quoted me a new interior and a new engine, quote almost R190k

The second company quoting a new engine....
I fetched her from them and took her back to Mitsubishi specialist, that should have worked on the car from the start!
So lets wait and see what we have coming now.

So she doesn't start in Park every time, have to sometimes go back to neutral (electrical??)
She's started overheating as I mentioned.
Now she's also smoking.
She's missing badly as well.

Now the assessor says the car was fine when I took delivery of it, thus this has to be after the fact.
What am I to do???????
Re: Water Damage // Strong 3.8 V6 or is it??
Did you sign anything (when they released the Pajero to you) to the effect that you accept the repairs done to be 100%?

I'd get my lawyer involved if I were you.
