Hi

I have also taken on this job but removed the entire inlet manifold and attempted to clean it as good as possible. Also found a lot of goo coming from the concertina like pipe on the righthand side of the head. Actually i think it was blocked to a large extend. Managed to get it to tricle a bit of fluid though in the end. This channel runs on the underside of the manifold and ends up just after the throttle inside the manifold. Since then idling jumped up to about two everytime I start and stays there. Set it a bit lower but still goes high and eventually drop to one.

Since then I have blocked off the concertina pipe but still have a bit eratic idling and running high (assume this to be auto choke). Have not touched the MAF box yet but cleaned sensor with carb cleaner.

Post some pics tomorrow.

I don't know if this is only on the 6G74 3.5 V6, but I've entered MAF sensor on google and I got this youtube video where it shows how u can test the MAF yourself:"Youtube - scanning MAF or Mass Air Flow Sensors".

Hope it can be usefull.

Thnx Bennie. I have cleaned my inlet manifold completely and found lots of dirt and gunk inside. Since then the idling jumped to almost 2000 rpm every time I start and struggle to come down. Even when warm it still idles above one thousand. I have attempted in vain to get the idling lower by setting the idling screw. Inlet butterfly also seem to catch.

Is there an automatic choke on these engines or does the MAF adjust according to the temp of the water? :?:

my idle took more than a week to adjust after I fitted a new MAF.
