The compression was done by fitting high compression pistons and the cam is a 272 with a 108 deg lobe separation, this ups the output without moving the power band in to higher rev range. On a dyno the baby produces a fair 125 kw with a few nm more of the important stuff but if I had to pay market related prices to have the conversion done I doubt whether the gains would justify the expense.
It is no brain surgery type of qualifications to produce more power but to do it without influencing reliability is the tricky part
Thus doing the cam without the high compression pistons will shift the power band to higher revs?
What is a 272 cam? I assume 108deg lobe seperation is the angle of the lobe.

272 refers to the degree duration (out of 360) that the cam opens the valve.Cobvs wrote:Thus doing the cam without the high compression pistons will shift the power band to higher revs?

You can therefore have a 272/268 cam that opens the intake valve for 272 degrees and the exhaust for 268 degrees.
But it gets more complicated as the 272 duration can have high lift and low lift profiles (how far it pushes the valve into combustion chamber) as well as different flow curves (it may open slowly and close quickly or have an even curve to open and close etc.)
Then there is the timing. A 272 cam just points to the duration but it can also be cut to open at various times in the timing cycle of the engine. This is a constant value - Unless you utilise something that can change it on the go and put a variable system in like VVT from toyota.
