Re: Dealer p....s!
Just a dump opinion...

It's the temperature gauge on your instrument cluster (!!)
Check if the engine really gets hot.
Change the Instruments Cluster Dashboard if you have one somewhere or connect an external temperature gauge.

Not sure why but this symptom become frequent to many LWB Gen 3 Mits. To me looks like a factory defect.

Re: Dealer p....s!
get the one from connocks. They can make a 3 row core as opposed to the 2 row core from the dealers. More cooling efficiency and larger capacity!
Re: Dealer p....s!
Ask the dealer whether he will back his diagnostic up in writing?
If it does not cure the problem, they will foot the bill?

Re: Dealer p....s!
do you guys think their rationale is plausible? That when I have the viscous fan bolted the rising temperature problem goes away but with their viscous clutch fitted it remains. Their argument is that when the fan clutch is bolted it works at more than 100% the strength that the fan is supposed to work at and then provides a greater than normal/standard cooling effect.

They say that that is why when I have the fan clutch bolted it takes away my overheating problem but the problem is still there with their new fan clutch fitted.

They therefore argue that it is not the fan clutch that is the problem but some othe rpart of the cooling system. They suggetsed first changing the radiator and then the water pump (or both at the same time if I am feeling rich!).

Why not the instrument cluster panel?

The rationale sounds plausible, but that implies that the cooling system is on the edge of being adequate - to the extent that a partially blocked radiator will have it fail.
I am used to Mitsu designing with quite a bit of redundancy.
It would have been nice to try another Gen3's radiator, before you buy a new one.
(You and Marius should maybe get together with the two Gen3s and a 6-pack of cold ones! :D )

You have my number..... Let's make a plan. The radiator is easy to remove.

Re: Dealer p....s!
thanks again guys. can't wait till i have recovered from this prolonged illness with glandular fever so i can do stuff in and with my Pajero again. will definitely have to have Marius around with a couple cold beers so we can contemplate how great our vehicles are :D

Re: Dealer p....s!
New radiator from Silvertons fitted today.

Same very steep test hill, very similar ambient temperatures, VERY DIFFERENT RESULT! This time with the new radiator and viscous fan fitted the temp gauge didn't even reach halfway!

Awesome!
