SJOE!!!
I will make a BIG stink at the dealer and tell them that 1300DegC is NONSENSE and that they must send your car for diagnostics at Alan Black IMMEDIATLY at their cost!! Maybe consider taking it to Mitsu in Midrand where I have always had superior service.
To me it sounds as if there is an injector with problems, but Alan Black should be able to give you a good idea. If you decide to take it to them on your own account it is not that expensive(well relatively to a stuffed engine) and I think my last check with no items needing adjustment was R1700 or there abouts.

Morning All
Chapter 3
After having the EGT guage fitted and pending an appointment with Mits Brooklyn I hitched my caravan on Friday afternoon and did a test run to Krugersdorp & back wanting to record accurate values.
The results were shocking as the run up Krugersdorp hill in 3rd gear running at 3000RPM (not full throttle) ran na EGT of 808 degrees C, a coolant temperature of 106 degrees C and an oil temperature of 109 degrees. The dash coolant temp gauge only registering half way a lot lower than what has been recorded before thus I am left wondering what temps have been reached on previous occasions. The run was not consistent as I had to slow down and pass a couple of trucks on the way up.
En route to Krugersdorp on one of the longer inclines the EGT ran up to 783 degrees and coolant registered 97 degrees.
Well the vehicle is at Mits Brooklyn today and tomorrow so that they can investigate and remedy.
I have my reservations with this dealership based on other PAJ owners experiences. I will probably end up taking my car to Alan Black Pty Ltd. to obtain peace of mind.
Results to follow.............
Regards
Frans

The very debatable rule of thumb is to keep the EGT's below 700 degrees and on short bursts allow up to 750.
Anything higher than that becomes very dangerous.

Morning All
In follow up, this is what I submitted to the dealership this morning...........
It is unfortunate I did not have the opportunity to discuss my car with you when collecting it yesterday, however I am obliged to inform you of the following.
Firstly, several rumours and forum discussions have alluded to the poor service received from the Brooklyn Mitsubishi dealership. Notwithstanding these I chose to ignore these comments and use your facility to attend to an ongoing problem I have been experiencing namely the overheating. Subsequent to collection of my vehicle on 2 February 2010 I have to concur with the dissatisfied Brooklyn dealership clients that this dealership cannot be trusted and I will elaborate.
Secondly, it is disturbing to note and heed that technical staff do not understand the terminology “Exhaust Gas Temperatures” (EGT) and state that they do not “work” with these, and further that an EGT of 1300˚C is acceptable. Much research and information is available and such utterances by technical staff are outrageous and could end up in a costly repair for an uninformed person.
After collecting my car yesterday (02/02/2010) I proceeded to examine the car and found no evidence that the radiator or air conditioner condenser had been cleaned, on the contrary there is evidence of insect remains on the outside and a significant amount of grass seed between the two units. This can be seen when shining a light down between the radiator and condenser. Further the maximum values registered when the car was at your facility was an EGT of 725 and a coolant temperature of 92 ˚C, and this without a caravan in tow…..
I have further determined that Alan Black (Pty) Ltd. are accredited Mitsubishi diesel & fuel injection specialists. I will therefore be making an appointment with them to evaluate my car and determine the cause of the overheating which in my opinion amongst others is related to the high EGT’s. Base on their findings and should no fault be detected I will not pursue the matter further and take responsibility for any costs incurred, however, should there be any adjustments, and /or other maintenance required then these costs will be claimed from Mitsubishi.
I hope that you will find this in order and affirm that you will be informed of any outcomes accordingly.
Yours sincerely

Do you have a outcome yet as I had the same problem on my 2000 DID. I replaced the termostat, radiator cap(both genuine), clean the radiator and intercooler.
