Re: Pump Advance - 2001 Pajero 3.2 Di-D - Feedback
Thanks for the feedback. I will be watching this thread closely. I have done the driving bit in a toyota and believe me it might go anywhere but it does not do so in comfort, try spending 18hr a day for 10 days in a toy it's murder.

An engine belching out smoke does not run efficiently so it must improve the consumption if the smoking stops as the fuel is converted in to drive rather than producing smoke

I refer to other post on the same topic, especially: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =24&t=3276

Here I also commented on some questions on adjusting the diesel pump mechanically. After this I tried several mechanics to adjust the timing - none were prepared - they all stick to: it can't be done. We need to calibrate the pump.

I have however found a mechanic who are prepared to play around - as in the previous post I have more than one person getting 10+km/l on 3.2DiD, so my own 7.5 is not acceptable. Please keep us informed.

I want to however know what is the the relation between you post in Dec 2011 and this one, 4ePikanini?

Maybe we can merge all the discussion on pump timing/fuel consumption?

Re: Pump Advance - 2001 Pajero 3.2 Di-D - Feedback
My advance has definitely freed up some ponies and my smoky idle is now completely gone.

However it seems my fuel economy is not benefitting much. My halfway mark is approaching and it seems it will reach halfway at 300km like before.

My next step if this tank doesn't yield results is the center big silencer delete (may be blocked) and then new injectors.

After that im calling it quits and making peace with my fuel economy.

Ai, I've done the injectors and didnt make differance.

Seems like we have thirsty Pajero's.... end of story.

Did yours have a very strong smell when idling? what color was the smoke?

White'ish smoke as if the glow plugs arent working when starting cold. The smell burns your eyes and nose when you stick your face close to it but it's a typical diesel engine smell.

Doesnt use oil or coolant.

Ill do the center silencer box delete month end. It may be blocked a bit and causing excessive back pressure.

Maybe some models had different pumps or piston tops giving the better mileage.

I suppose i could try running it without the nudge bar to see what that does to the economy.

I took mine for a service on Thursday and they ran the diagnostics and it showed no errors or nothing....

I just recalled that it cant be the coolant sensor as my idle butterfly solenoid is operating correctly when engine is up to temp so ecu sees engine being warm.

This is my fuel status at the moment

332km

It does however include a half days off road play so maybe it has made a small difference. My fuelly will tell over time.
