Thanks, I will check it this weekend.
I checked your thread about the idle butterfly.... can you maybe explain a bit more what it must look like when it is correct

I just need to find out where and how to unscrew the plugs.
The same way as you would remove normal plugs on a petrol engine, no trick to it. I sprayed some Q20 on the glow plug's threads when putting them back in so I could feel when they tightened - otherwise they might be very dry, tight and it's difficult to judge when they are completely or partly screwed in.
When the engine is cold the intake butterfly is fully open at idle.Nismo wrote:Thanks, I will check it this weekend.

When the engine is at operating temp the idle butterfly solenoid closes the butterfly valve about 90% to reduce vibration and noise.
If the temp sensor is not working as it should the above behaviour will be out of sync. Depending on the failure it may close the idle butterfly when the engine is still cold or it may never close even when the engine is up to operating temp. If the behaviour is not as I described on top then it's safe to assume the temp sensor that feeds the ecu is at fault and because of that failure the glow plugs may not stay on for long enough.
If that's the case you will have hard starting and your economy may suffer.
Stupid question.... What dies the idle butterfly look like.....
I'm not at home to check the service manual.

It's a normal butterfly like you would see on any engine. The 4m41 has two diaphragms that operate it. One closes the butterfly completely when switching the ignition off. The other closes it 90% as mentioned at idle when up to operating temperature.

Marius, I just checked now....
When the butterfly doesn't close at all. I drove around at when I stopped the butterfly was still open. I switched the engine off and the butterfly closed for about 4 seconds and opened again. Started again and the butterfly stayed open fully..... Please give you expert diagnoses on this.
The other thing, the glow plug light doesn't come on at all. I switched on and of a few times, I can't see the light come on.
Last thing..... How do you remove the 80A fuse?

if it doesn't close at idle when the engine is up to operating temp the engine is either not getting up to temp (stuck open thermostat) or the engine coolant sensor is stuffed completely giving out of spec reading to the ecu.
I would grab a helper and check the voltage at the relay and for how long it stays on to eliminate a fuse and/or relay. If there is voltage going to the glowplugs (albeit briefly) then the issue is either the coolant sensor or the glow plugs itself.

Thanks Marius!
Where is the relay I must check?
Is it just the dealers that will stock a coolant sensor?

Is this the coolant sensor you are talking about?

I've tested the voltage on the glow plus.
With the positive on the glow plug rail and negative on the negative terminal of the battery.....
I get 10v when the ignition is on, it drops to 8-9v while starting and when the motor its running it is on 12.8v
Any ideas?
