the 3.2 takes closer to 9 liters.
The screwdriver method requires space which there isn't much off.
Try to grip the filter by using coarse sandpaper (coarse side towards filter) to grip the filter. You will be amazed how much easier you can twist the filter off. I struggled to get the mazda filter off with screwdriver so sat down and thought about it. I grabbed some sandpaper and voila. I could turn it off.
Hi guys,
By changing the oil in your engine yourself can/will/may be the entrance to bigger things. Well done for taking the first step in the right direction!
I shall make the following offer to any first time Pajero DIY owner that is willing/able to visit my house in Pretoria: I will asist you in changing oil(s) and filters (basically guide you - you will be doing the actual work and I shall instruct you on how to do it). You can also include gearbox and diffs oils if you like with the one proviso: no pre-stripped bolts or plugs.
Interested owners can contact me anytime.

Awesome gesture cloyd! Understand why you have this proviso... Took me an hour just to get a bolt out from the bash plate that had stripped.cloyd wrote:no pre-stripped bolts
Might take you up on the diff oils in the future. What about transmission and transfer case?
I have been doing my pajero oil changes for last year or so, one thing i see is you guys mention the sump plug gasket.
I havent seen one or have replace one on my PJ and have yet to run into problems. How necessary are they?
as to take out the old oil filter, hole in the bottom with sharp screwdriver and then use a long reach ratchet extention
with that oil filter chain removal tool

make sure the old filter rubber seal comes out
then make sure the all dirt is gone and clean before fitting the new oil filter with some clean oil on the new rubber.
I also fill the new oil filter 3/4 with oil before installing it.

Did my first oil change on the pajero.
Got filter and sump plug gasket from mitshu Brooklyn. Got 2x5l delo 400 from makro. Got sumpy and torgue wrench from midas....still have to return the filter spanmer...need a different type. Did not fit.
Get under car.....ooops....standard bashplate is gone???? When did this happen? Time to get hold of Uys from stofpad4x4....need some cash first though.
Removed sump plug.....let oil drain.
Took screwdriver to oil filter, punctured filter after checking part numbers. Let pil drain.
Removed oil filter.
Clean flange around oil filter and ensure old filter's rubber seal is removed.
Lube new filter rubber with new oil.
Install, hand tighten filter....no tools used...hope it is good enough. Will monitor.
Install sump plug and new washer....torque to 39nm......must say...this is tighter than what I would have done without a torque wrench.
Fill 1x5l.....fill another 2.5l......start for a minute......wait for a few....checked again.......add another liter os so.....checked...looks good. Will go for a drive in a bit and check levels and for leaks.
Did I miss anything?
Thanx for all the advise and help guys. It really helps having some clever people around.

Sounds about right.
About the bash plate, noticed this on my FIL's 2009 GLS as well. Seems they stopped putting the rear / transfer case protector on the later gen 4s.

Drive na die shops toe was goed, terug gekom, oil level gecheck, all good.
Dankie vir almal se inputs. Dis lekker om iets self te doen.....wil net nie iets aanpak en die motor seer maak nie.
