That's 13.9 l/100km, which seems to be a "popular" figure for Di-D ATs.

I can't recall ever seeing a complaint about the Di-D with a manual gearbox.
This points to the auto tranny not being as efficient as we would have liked?

Re: Mad consumption
The 510km was on the open road, i dont know, does anyone on the forum have a standerd 2008 swb di-d?
Re: Mad consumption
How much litres does it use for that 440km?. It might be that the consumption is normal and that the tank have a dent in. The tanks are protected by a plastic cover that bounce back after impact but the actual tank deform inwards thus an inspection from below might not be true. A comon problem on the gen3 Pajero that has been bumped somewhere on an offroad trail. A normal gen3 LWB Pajero should be able to take 90litres when empty, a SWB is somewhat less IIRC. If this is your problem get a soft cushion to cry in. Those tanks cant be fixed and they cost a few body parts to replace!

Re: Mad consumption
Cats, I think you hit the nail on the head, I mean tank....

My Pajero (LWB though) runs around 12.5l/100. 13.9 sounds a bit heavy especially if its open road. Open road I get about 11 ;)

As Cats says, the tank has a plastic tupperware cover around it. Unbolt it and have a look at the tank and see if she's dented. Might be your problem........

On second thoughts, though regardless of any possible dent in your tank, consumption is calculated on liters used vs Kilos driven. So, if you fill up a similar amount and every time only get around 440Km, then I doubt a dent issue.

Re: Mad consumption
Yup - dent shouldn't matter - it's litres/km ratio.

That consumption sounds scary - Roelf's 3.8V6 better's that on the open road :)

I found driving style affects the diesel consumption quite a lot but even then 13.9 at a constant 125km/h is just wrong - there must be a problem.

Open road at 120/125 my LWB does around 10.5/11, at GPS 105km/h I normally average 9/9.5

Hope he sorts it out - at R11 a litre it must hurt :(

Cheers

The SWB has a 69Ltr tank. Don't think your problem lies with the tank. :?:

Re: Mad consumption
Thanx for the Big input,

we will strip the cover tonight, but i also dont think the prob is with the tank. Do you guys think im wrong if i say (this paj could be a factory fault), because every road we take ends up a dead end, and whats killing me is the fact that i turned his head from a prado to a paj and now im costing him a mad house full of money and we cant compare the vehicles, cause i have a manual. :?: :|

something else, could the diesel pump make a diffrence, according to my knoledge if there is a problem with the diesel pump there will be big amounts of black smoke :?:
Re: Mad consumption
Piri

Dont bother with the tank if your consumption of l/100km is calculated and gives you that reading. As stated by other then it is just plain heavy.

Pump and injectors as well as driving style can make a huge difference on consumption. It is on my list to do again shortly to try and sort out my current drinking problem.

I currently sit on 14.4l/100km avg on my manual diesel LWB and yes it hurts. Open road I always tow so difficult to compare and in town is very subjective. Also I am heavily loaded and modded with bigger tyres and what not, so your 13.9l/100km sound about right to me unfortunately.

i have a 1996 2.8 LWB diesel and iam getting around 7-8km/l no load, at around 100-110km/h. is this normal or must i start checking injectors and pump.
