I forgot to mention, I also have a 3.5m easyawn 2000 fitted to my rack.

Not sure if the awn accounts for the extra 1km/lt I seem to be losing.

All my references of empty rack includes the awn. I have never tried the rack without the awn.

On a trip between somerset west and mosselbay i got better fuel cons. towing a trailer then what a did on a previous trip with a roofrack with less camping gear. I dont know what the difference will be offroading though.

Bennvdm, think you hit it on the head - that awning probably accounts for about 1km/l.
