My 1997 SWB 3.0 V6 always does the same thing when the battery was disconnected. It idles fine when it is cold but once it is hot it keeps on stalling when you slow down. When you restart it is fine. It had me baffled at first. I have tried using the procedure in the workshop manual to fix it but with no luck. I find that it just usualy fixes itself after 2 or 3 days.

Hi, maybe check the "step up fuel pump" - not sure if this is the correct term but my 1998 3000V6 LWB manual had exactly this problem and the mech changed the unit (with a second hand unit) and it solved the problem.

On another topic, can someone advise me whether the "ticking" lifter noise is serious to the engine wear or just an annoyance ? Is it worth fixing / replacing the lifters or just use the specialized oil ?

During our visit to Namibia in 2008 in our 3.5 GLS SWB 2000 Auto petrol, the same problem of cutting out when going to idle occurred after the negative battery cable came loose due to bad installation of new battery(it broke the mountings).

After many kilometres of frustrating driving and trying to keep revs up and allowing a long, long cool down period, it was found that the positive cable on the battery was also very slightly loose. After modifying and tightening up the clamp the problem went away for the rest of the trip. In August 2009 the problem raised its head again whilst travelling in the Kruger Park. When we got back to camp both positive and negative clamps on the battery were tightened and the problem has not returned.

Thanks – I hope you find this information useful in solving your problem. :D
