Later Gen 3 - think 2005 & 2006 models came out with 17", but the 265/65r17 has the same circumference as the 265/70r16 of earlier models. Therefore makes no difference other than price per tyre.
The lower profile of the 17" compensates for the increase in rim size. On 16" the one size up tyre is the 265/75r16 and on 17" it is the 265/70r17.

I also own a 2005 auto Did. One major disadvantage of the auto vs manual is the significant difference in fuel consumption between highway driving and city driving. I get close to 10km/l on the highway, but between 7 and 8 in the city. This is not unique to the Pajero, but common to most auto-boxes.

Early Gen3 models had 16" rims, but later models had 17" rims. The 2005 will definitely be 17" originally.

Do you know what chip it has in?
I am not sure where to look, but the invoice that came with the car shows it was done at steves auto clinic nelspruit
(SAC).
i also read the comments about these chips, and dont realy know should i leave it in or unplug it as some have done.no smoking or flat spots, just lots of power from pull away.

Hi All,
I also have a 2005 GLS LWB Auto
I'm averaging 7.89 km/l over the last 88 918 km. I use my vehicle mainly for daily commuting in Gauteng
My vehicle is very heavy as I haveds,m a replacement front and rear bumper, nice thick bashplate, custom build and very heavy side steps.
Mine had 16" rims as standard
My vehicle has a SAC chip, which made Zero change in fuel consumption but definitely added power. Must say I'm very disappointed in this fact and was convinced it would make a difference as I did not change my driving style.
Regards,
