Last week the car spent 2 days at my mechanic and it did not repeat it's problem.

On Tuesday afternoon I picked up the car and drove it for the rest of the week. Friday afternoon, just as I was about to hook up my trailer for our weekend away, it did it again. I was standing behind the car when my wife started the car and I did not notice excessive smoke(a lot of people asked about this). I then left it waiting for the mechanic to come to my house with everything needed to read fault codes and before they arrived I tried starting again, all good...

I had an oil analysis done earlier in the week and all indications are that the oil was from a "low wear" engine. Unfortunately the test was done on the oil after only around 3000km since the last oil change. No significant fuel dilution and generally everything seemed OK(according to Oilwatch).

Over the weekend we drove about 400km with about 6 start/stops. I also randomly started the car over the weekend and it never repeated the problem.

On 4x4 Community someone suggested the Diesel pump. Apparently the same symptoms was rectified by a new diesel pump. Any comments?

What is the typical symptoms of of a faulty diesel pump?

Over the last few weeks the problem on my Pajero has been coming and going enough for me to recognize a pattern.

Every single time the car started revving high was around mid day. Between 12:00 and 13:00 when it was standing in full sun.

Today it started fine, but it started to feel like there was an unreliable fuel supply. almost as if I took my foot of the accelerator pedal for a moment and back to normal again. When I stopped and put the car in "park", the revving was back. I tried to start again after a few moments and all was back to normal again.

Any ideas? Maybe some electronics starting to fail and heat at mid day causes problems?

Looking forward to some comments.

look under by the throttle pedal for the longish grey connector. unplug, spray with elektrokleen on both sides and plug back in making sure the connector clicks in all the way.

Hi everyone

3 days ago I opened up the area under the steering column and checked the "grey plug". I sprayed it with an electrical contact cleaner and made sure it was clipped back.

I also removed the battery terminals for a few minutes, thinking that maybe there is something that needs a good reset...

Yesterday I drove the car and by the afternoon I felt that it was almost like there was something dirty in the fuel. The was a slight uneven feel to the engine. When I stopped at a traffic light I felt that the jerking increased. I put the car in neutral and it revved up high again.

A friend of mine stopped behind me at a traffic light and he mentioned afterwards that he noticed something was wrong due to some black smoke comming out the exhaust at the time that the car was revving high.

When I put the car in drive and kept my foot on the brake, it did not feel like there was a lot of power going to the wheels. Back in neutral and it was revving high.

I drove straight to the mechanic and by the time I got there it was fine again...

Any ideas around fuel sensors that might be faulty?

Black smoke means over-fuelling.

check that the the throttle body action is working as it should

Thanks Marius, I just had a discussion with someone about that. I will check and report back later.

I checked my throttle body as per the above video, and there is some differences.

Before I start my car the valve is open. On starting the car the valve closes and stay closed until I switch off. A few seconds after switching off it opens again. If I apply the throttle it opens up and closes again when I release the throttle.

Any comments?

Just some feedback on the intermittent problem my car had:

Over the past 2 months or so my car has had the symptoms explained above.

The latest thing I started looking at was the Unichip. Today the car did it again while I was driving and I stopped.

I removed the chip and all was good. Put it back and the problem was back. removed it again and all was good. Repeater this a few times until I was sure that it was the chip causing the problem.

The Chip has now been removed and returned to Dastek to confirm the problem.
