Re: 2.8 TDi Top Gasket gone
I regard this as closure on the topic initially raised - the end solution being to convert to V8!

Workshop in Stikland will do the conversion for R45k, max R50k. I recall seeing a DiD, Colt bakkie, Toyota bakkie, Farenza this morning, all in various stages of their respective conversions when I visited this morning. They guarantee all gauges will work, as will the aircon. Included is a new aluminum radiator, fans, SS exhaust, mapping on dyno. Mating of autobox with transfer case. Comes with 20000kms/1 year guarantee . Looked the guy in the eye, level-headed non-swearing enthusiast - my type of mac!!

Worst case I can add a tick to my bucket list and at least sell it for some money, else I'll keep rollin and smiling

Thanks for all the advice and support - I will log the next chapter under a new post :geek:

If I could get that conversion done here in Oz for the equivalent money I would jump on it.

Got the monster back on Friday and the smiles are addictive when turning the keys. For clarity, they couldn't mate the auto box with the transfer case and I'm glad in the end. Decent adaptor plate and new clutch fitted and the V8 simply transformed the vehicle. Keeping a close eye on everything, but all is still fine and am really enjoying my new beast :D

Jeez, with an exhaust sounding like that I would really suffer at the petrol pumps.... Sounds great!

What did the conversion cost you in the end?

Re: 2.8 TDi Top Gasket gone
Many thanks! It still feels surreal each time I drive it and absolutely brings a smile to my face :D

The complete (very pro) job cost R51k, included:
  • tow of vehicle
  • new battery
  • S/S exhaust
  • new pull clutch
  • new radiator
  • dual aircon working
  • all gauges working
  • fitment of supplied front Camil shocks
The workshop in Stikland doesn't specialize in 4x4's, but completed a Gen3 3.2DiD conversion just prior to mine and managed to figure out the electronics - PM me for their details when ready

4ePajero wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2014 9:21 am Regardless of what anybody tells you, if the Lexus conversion costs less than the 4m40 rebuild, I will be very surprised.

(Have you thought of buying the 3,2 Di-D out of my Gen1? It is virtually new, runs 100% and it is a very simple transplant. The engine block and peripherals are identical).
Hi Gerhard
I am terrible at this chat thing here, so please be patient;
I am in the same boat here, the 4m40 is top dead, and i could go max with that motor overhaul due to me loving the diesel. But i like the way you think, and you answered my question aswel.
please confirm, the 4m40 can easily be swapped with a 4m41?
Gearbox ok?
Engine mountings ok?
What would be the worst challenge to face?
Electronics on pump?
Accelerator manual on 3.2?

Or any help on contacts to talk to that can help with most body or other parts on Pajeros. New and used.
Maybe some Pajero advice. Love readoing the club posts.
Dont want to bother here. Very new to this chat thing. And very new to Pajero.

Thank you
Gido
