Re: Cambelt service 240 000km Pajero 3,5 GLS (1998 Gen 2,5)
There's a BMW control arm bush you can use. I used it on my v8 conversion to help with the extra torque.

For the past 2 years I take my 1996 3.5V6 LWB Pajero to Henk (Pajero Services and Maintenance) for services. Although its 200km from home, the quality, honesty, reliability and fees of the services received, makes it worthwhile. I had the cambelt replaced 5 months ago, picked it up and drove 600 km to the bushveld. Once had a complaint of a tear in an CV-boot less than 1500km after Henk replaced the boots. Henk was immediately willing to address the problem. His contact number 083 306 1848.

Even though you don't need to take the front of the engine for this, check that your thermostat still operates normally. It's cheap to replace but if it fails, it can overheat your engine.
If you replace it, check that the new one opens in boiling water before fitting it. I've learnt my lesson...

Also not directly related to a cambelt change, but maybe check the butterfly bushes in the inlet manifold. It's operated by the vacuum thingy at the front of the manifold, and if the bushes are worn it doesn't operate nicely. Worst case it could drop a small piece in the manifold, down in the engine. Not cool...
