Recently had two cars with problems with the fuel shut-off solenoids. Both we found the spring behind the shut off plunger had broken up and jammed the plunger. 1) Check voltage to the solenoid (difficult!). 2) Remove the wire leading to the solenoid and use an external wire to the battery, touch the solenoid on / off listen out for a clear click. Or remove the bracket above the solenoid remove and test it outside of the pump where you have room. First prize is to rebuild your own motor. BUT get someone who knows what they are doing. Lots of horror stories with Tjorlappers taking a stab at it.
New motor is nice, but then the vehicle becomes a "rebuilt" code 3, with a very low re sale value, so only if you are keeping her.
Lexus V8 conversion? My dream :)
