Re: Fuel to use in 3.0 V6
16mm NGK BPR6E plugs were in at 0.8mm

They look like this with about 10'000km running on LRP and 2-stroke.

BPR5ES-11 NGK plugs are now in gapped to 1.1mm - yes I added a feeler gauge to the garage clutter

Will report back on next expensive fill up.

Re: Fuel to use in 3.0 V6
Looking at all the comments regarding this subject, I have nothing to complain about. My little 3.0 V6 SWB 1998(SAMCOR Model) runs on LRP and the fuel consumption is :P 7.2km/l (Daily 155km open road and towndriving) As soon as I fill up with Unleaded, the consumption falls to average  6.1km/l. I have noticed this the first time while towing a "big" trailer from Pta to CT. Afterwards I have tested/checked the resultls and everytime the results are the same. LPR better fuel consumption as well as performance. Question :?: What is the reason for the 500ml of 2stroke oil???

There is a definite de-carbonising effect with running 2-stroke oil mixed in with the fuel. It has shown to clean and keep clean the injectors, valves, exhaust port and combustion chamber.

There is hot debate regarding the lubricity of the diesel pump in diesel vehicles.

An afternoon's read can be found here - https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/sh ... hp?t=40981

There is lots of valuable info and lots of garbage, opinions and bashing posted there as well so just take it on face value to see what the huff puff is all about.

just judging by the fuel gauge it seems my consumption is better already after putting in the correct plugs. will have to wait and see how it goes.

Re: Fuel to use in 3.0 V6
These babies are full of nonsense when it comes to plugs. In your plat kar running one heat range hotter is recommended with unleaded and a slightly larger gap helps as well, Mitsu did not read that book. Drop in a standard NGK BP6E and see what confusion results in the management system. The motor idles like an old dakota with half of the cylinders full of oil :) Make sure that our plugs have the R in the coding indicating a resistor plug.

As for the naamsa charts I am not sure if I trust an official document that lists a 3.5l as a 6G72, as for 91 oct :?: :?: :?:

I think they have been running a bit cold (judging from the photographs).
0.8 mm is way to small for decent economy.

Re: Fuel to use in 3.0 V6
last tank I checked I still got 20l/100km.

Looks like it made no difference at all other than I think I'm feeling more torque on low revs.

Tyres were at 180front/200rear as per manual but I have now pumped them to 230front/250rear to see if I can save a bit there. Comfort loss is still negligible.

It will take time to check though as the jetta is back in service giving just over half of what the pajero uses :)

Another thing just hit me.

Can a very old fuel filter cause bad economy?

I bought a filter but I have never installed it.

You better believe it

If the filter is obstructing the flow of fuel it means that the fuel pressure at high load and rpm range is lower than it should be effectively giving you a lean mixture when least needed resulting in low power. To remedy this you step on the loud pedal even more and sit in a lower gear for longer than needed and hence the consumption goes up. I was pleasantly surprised by the difference when I replaced mine. (I just wish they would mount the filter in a more accessible spot)

Tell me about it. The jetta's filter takes less than 60 seconds to replace and just require a screwdriver. :)
